After your interview with All Songs Considered, how long did it take to get a response from them?
Do you mean for my internship? I never interviewed. I applied spring semester my senior year of college in 2010 — sending in a manilla envelop holding a cover letter and actual clippings from my school paper and the local alt-weekly.
Bob Boilen called me in August, the second day of my internship with Paste. Since I was already in Atlanta and a publication’s fold, I stayed. The following Monday, Paste laid off all its employees but I hung around with one other editorial intern for the rest of the run.
I kept in touch with Bob, though, and stopped by for a Tiny Desk Concert during a roadtrip to D.C. to see Belle & Sebastian. He told me to apply again. And since it was the last possible run I could be eligible for (within one year of graduation) and Paste didn’t look promising, I did. Bob called again a day or two before Christmas to ask me to move to The District. I broke my lease in Decatur, found a basement in Columbia Heights via Craig’s List and moved in one day before my internship with NPR started.
Does that answer it?
