In the case of Carina Rosier, Clarabel has always felt understood by the other girl. Yes, they come from the same background but the fact is, Carina is good, she is kind and Clara loves her with all her heart. She herself wonders c o n s t a n t l y how Carina could end up such a wonderful human being in her head, without having the same adversity that she has had. The fact that they have certain little things to share, she wishes they were closer. There are only a few people Clarabel is concerned about being in Skull & Bones, and Carina, her dear cousin Carina, is one of those people. What drove her to do it? What even is it? She wonders if she wasn’t strong enough for Carina, if she wasn’t enough for Carina to stay away from that group, from the others of their group that was their birthright. Deep down, she’s scared that Carina’s goodness will fade away, and out of any of her family, it scares her the most if Carina’s were to do so. She is sunshine personified, even if she has demons, Clara loves her with all her heart.
They’re both friends with people they aren’t supposed to be, they’re both somewhat “too nice” or “nicer” than they’re supposed to be, and Clara finds comfort in having someone else that is like her in that way. One of the many reasons Clara has had the courage to even befriend who she has is because of Carina unapologetically doing the same. She’d protect her to the grave and all she wants her to be is free. She wants Carina to be happy, to live in a house with all buttons, she wants her to live happily and be whole. It’s scary to think that Carina would be one of the many of her family to make the dark descent into moral ambiguity through immoral actions, because then she’d fear that she’d have a higher chance of herself doing the same.
Often when Clara cries or has nightmares of some sort, she’ll see people she loves — including Carina — doing horrible things. Not even to her, but to random people ( and not that she’d ever admit, to people she knows ), and she can’t shake the feeling that it’s possibly more than just a nightmare. Why Carina pushes her away at times, is something she’ll never understand, but she misses the days where she’d look up to Carina as a role model for her kindness in the adversity they both faced, in the painted masked faces and hate of Pureblood Society. They were always too kind for the life they faced, and in that they found a solidarity. A bond.
