(via Heavy Baile feat. Goes: Ciranda - YouTube)
“London-based director Alex Tiernán returns to NOWNESS with a high-spirited music video for the Brazilian group, Heavy Baile. Soundtracked by the music collective’s infectious fusion of carioca funk and electronic music, this energetic film shows the journey of a neighborhood cook who shirks his responsibilities in order to dance the streets of Rio de Janeiro”.

Piere Club - Banginclude by BANGINCLUDE EP by http://bit.ly/2b8gNza and Myself Free DL entire EP: http://bit.ly/1RiCwUl Over the past month, fans of globally geared dance music have been treated with two new cuts from a joint EP titled To The Floor from producer/DJs Banginclude and Comrade. First, Baltimore club and baile funk single "Wacky Voz" highlighted the pairs skills at mashing genres for a seamless dancefloor staple. Then we were treated to the EP's title track whose dembow stylings proved a natural fit for fans of Major Lazer and the moombahton genre. Now Banginclude and Comrade have revealed the remainder of the stacked six-track EP via Comrade's Xão Productions imprint. To sweeten the deal, Comrade and Banginclude have made this one a free download. Pick up your copy here: http://bit.ly/1RiCwUl For the remainder of To The Floor, the pair revel in sweltering hip shakers like carioca funk cut "Mais Uma Porrada" and bass heavy jersey club fixture "Piere Club." Additionally, Banginclude and Comrade have thrown some individual tracks into the mix with Banginclude throwing an amped up spin on Brazilian superstar MC Bin Landen's "Bololo Haha" and Comrade with a 2016 update of MC Marcinho's throwback jam "Glamourosa." Not their first joint effort, the To The Floor EP is a natural culmination of both producer's many years at the forefront of the global club music scene. New York-based Banginclude, has been a staple of NYC nightlife thanks to his infamous signature sound he calls "Global Booty Bass." An infusion of styles from across the world ranging from zouk bass to jersey club, Banginclude's adrenaline rush tunes have landed him gigs planet-wide from Montreal to Mexico. His sound also caught the ear of tastemakers far and wide that have led to releases with Branko's Lisbon label Enchufada, legendary Latin label Fania Records, Man Recordings, Latino Resiste, and Generation Bass. In addition, BangInclude has also shared the stage with renowned artists including Schlachthofbronx, Uproot Andy, Cut Chemist, Zuzuka Poderosa, DJ Comrade, Zee Reach, Omulu, and Happy Colors. You may already be familiar with the work of Comrade as well, as it is frequently found spliced into Major Lazer sets, as well as Jack Ü, and Brazilian exports Tropkillaz. Comrade, a veteran in the scene clocking in 16+ years on the DJ circuit, is the mastermind behind Xão Productions, credited with the creation of the "Favela Trap" sub-genre, and noted as the first to introduce Rasteirinha to dancefloors outside of Brazil.
Dias & Riedweg, Funk Staden (2007), detail of the video installation
Dias & Riedweg collaborated with Funk dancers in favelas of Rio de Janeiro to establish through this work a connection between the scene of Funk Carioca (Portuguese for “Funk from Rio de Janeiro”) and the book “True Story and Description of a Country of Wild, Naked, Grim, Man-eating People in the New World”, by Hans Staden (1527-1578). The work shows how the representation of the other in the early days of interactions between Europeans and indigenous tribes from the New World probably differs not that much from how nowadays media, in a modern way, use their authority to marginalise certain groups from society to the benefit of political or industrial powers. The artists oppose this mediated view of the other by focusing on a contemporary phenomenon that is taking place inside the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and up until now largely has remained hidden from outside views, and by inviting the Funk dancers to re-enact nine of the original woodcuts from Staden’s book as contemporary tableaux vivants ‘Funk style’.

Something for lunch
Here's something upbeat and popular in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Have a taste of Carioca Funk aka Baile Funk. I started loving this genre after hearing Cidinho e Doca's version of Rap das Armas whilst watching Tropa de Elite two years ago. This genre has an 80s beat to it yet blends in with the most random sounds like berimbaus (refer to the 11th minute of this mix) But I don't know, it just works for me to shake my booty so check out this mix by DJ Vivo. Originally from Bristol he recently moved to Rio and has some awesome podcasts of Brazilian music that you should check out here! Have a shakin' Friday people!
