A 20-year-old college kid carjacked a golf cart, mugging its occupants, before tearing down a New Jersey beach boardwalk, injuring people along the way.
The surreal spree came to a sudden halt inside a residence, with the suspect being held by civilians before cops arrived.
The culprit? Gettysburg College student Lukas D. Iorio, a former wrestling star at Bergen Catholic High School in New Jersey.
The details of his rampage, which took place in the New Jersey beach town of Manasquan on Sunday evening, are eye-opening and troubling.
Iorio began by kicking out the windshield of a beach patrol buggy and mugging and then tossing out the two officers inside the vehicle.
The buggy, with Iorio behind the wheel, then sped down the boardwalk, swerving and ultimately hitting and injuring a 49-year-old man.
When Iorio reached the end of the boardwalk, he crashed the buggy into a gazebo and attempted to steal a bicycle. Iorio then struck a man who had approached to offer help.
The next stage of the chase saw Iorio enter a house, where he punched a 72 year-old man before family members restrained Iorio.
Police arrived soon after and made an arrest. Iorio has been charged with (deep breath) carjacking, burglary, resisting arrest, assault by auto, simple assault, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, criminal mischief, reckless driving and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
