It is a process, but I'm getting there.
“If you got up this morning and started contemplating the bristles of your toothbrush, or questioning the meaning of toast, you probably wouldn’t make it to work.”
“The creative person wants to be a know -it-all. He wants to know about all kind of things; ancient history, nineteenth century mathematics, current manufacturing techniques, flower arranging and hog futures...”
Or maybe it’s the random contemplation of how many towel fibers shed onto his skin as he wipes off the excess water off the tops of his epidermis from a shower. Where they end up, and why. Or maybe the long thoughts of recent neurological science advancements and the replacement of neurons one can get from intense exercise, while simultaneously firing other neurons on the pontification of: current changes in climate and the prolonged changes in earths weather, and why. Powder days, the mountain, the canvas, the board, the brush, the pen, the notes. Love. The pure emotional life fuel. The hearts of darkness, a 200 day shoot, the insane Frances Coppola, wine, finally starting a first real script of his own, finishing a real script of his own, the chemical imbalances of a serial killer, what those imbalances are and how those imbalances – like many others – are only one or two pieces different structurally from other random drugs and other random diseases. Like Parkinson’s, or the difference between simple partial and complex partial seizures. The overall lack of knowledge that this world truly possesses, and the greater lack of knowledge that I truly possess… All the while as we all slowly, constantly “learn.”
Finally, a thought was completed and he just now realizes that 45 minutes has passed, and he’s late, frustrated, and self-overwrought. But he has faith. Faith for trying, for becoming, for evolving into and revolving out of, for squiggling along passed the others like the cells on this earth, for the beautiful formation of thoughts to ideas, and to ideas to creation. Because “…he never knows when these ideas might come together to form a new idea. It may happen 6 minutes later, or 6 years down the road. But the creative person has faith that it will happen.”
Thank you Roger Von Oech, and Carl Ally for A Whack on the Side of the Head.
