( … ) Molle, granulosa, la realtà torna quella che era e che non avrebbe mai dovuto essere. Al posto dello scampanellio di ciotole e posate, lo stridio di macchinari velati di polvere; al posto dell'aroma del caffè, un acre odore di sangue e disinfettante.

Carl si guarda attorno e si gratta la guancia: era un ricordo o un sogno a occhi aperti? In ogni caso, non ha importanza. È un mondo perduto quello che si è lasciato alle spalle, un mondo che è stato sepolto e si è decomposto; e se lui ancora lotta per qualcosa, qualcosa di diverso dalla salvaguardia del proprio corpo, non s'illude certo di poter riportare in vita quel mondo. Sarà anche ingenuo, ma non è stupido.

Ciò che è stato distrutto non gli verrà restituito, in questa nuova era, l'era in cui ci si sveglia a notte fonda temendo di essere mangiati, c'è poco spazio per la speranza. Eppure Carl è ancora lì; è lì a proteggere il proprio cuore, a fare in modo che non gli venga strappato, che non vengano alterati i suoi battiti. Non avrà più una casa Judith, neanche suo padre; ma è ancora un essere umano, ha ancora se stesso e dev'essere per forza rimasto qualcosa di bello da qualche parte.

Carl Grimes lotta per questo. Il segreto è essere adattabili, abituarsi a tutto, alle ferite, alle perdite, accontentarsi del poco che si ha, essere sempre pronti a ricominciare da zero.

I Love You, I’m Sorry, Please Don’t Go

Y/N POV

So my boyfriend Carl has been really mean to me lately and he is always smiling around this girl named Alexa ( Sorry if your name is Alexa) and he is always saying how beautiful she is.

"Hey Rick have you seen Carl?" I ask his dad.

"Um yeah hang on... CARL!" He yells for the boy that was about to be heartbroken or better yet happy

"YEAH!" I heard my soon to be ex-boyfriends voice.

"Tell him to meet at my cell." I told his dad.

"Come here!" I hear Rick yell before walking off to my cell.

"Yeah?" I Can see him from my cell.

"Y/N wants to speak with you in her cell." He tells him.

"Okay." I can hear the happiness in his voice, damn now i feel guilty for doing this, but I can’t let him lead me on anymore. 

"Hey Y/N you wanted to talk to me?" He asks me once he gets into my cell.

"I wanna...break up." I say just waiting for him to scream in joy.

"What...why?" He sounds like he’s crying, I looked up and saw him crying which shocks me because I thought he would’ve been happy that we we’re breaking up.

"Why don't you ask Alexa she seems to be more prettier than me 'cause that's what you always say to me and if you wanna be with her go ahead cause I'm leaving." I say to him mentally cursing myself for having tears in my eyes.

"NO I LOVE YOU I'M SORRY PLEASE DON'T GO!" He yells sobbing after collapsing on the ground. "Please don't go please."

"Carl..." I say guilty that he’s begging but yet feeling happy that he’s begging for you to stay. "Fine I'll stay but you have to kick Alexa out or ignore her." I tell him my choice hoping he will pick one of them.

"Well I'll probably get in trouble for kicking Alexa out so I guess ignore her." He says giving me the choice that he picked making me smile because it’s one of the ones I wanted him to pick.

"Okay, I love you." I told him. "Now get off the floor."

"I love you to Y/N." He says getting up. "Wanna go take a walk?"

"Yes let's go." I say blushing because this is how he asked you to be his girlfriend.

"Hey Carl!!" We both turn to See Alexa running towards us with her eyes locked on Carl and a huge grin on her face, but her grin fades and turns into a straight line when she sees me.

"What Alexa?" Carl asks her annoyed.

"Wanna go hang out?" She asks him biting her lip.

"Um no in fact I want you out of here pack your things and go." He tells her in a tone I've never heard him use.

"FINE!!!" She yells stomping off while crying.
