          “   i   dunno ,   the   principal   is   kinda   fucked   when   it   comes   to   gunfights .   not   that   i’m   a   moral   god .   ”   ... and   now   he’s   about   to  rant .   whilst   he   speaks ,   he   drops   his   cigarette   to   the   ground   and   twists   it   under   dirtied   white   shoes .   “   i’ll   cover   myself   and   people   when   we’re   gettin’   shot   at   and   shit ,   but   y’know   ...   poppin’   someone   just   for   being   there   fucks   me   up .   ”

          he just doesn’t want to look stupid. he’s had enough of people trying to perceive him in that way, so maybe he’s a little too stressed about this deal after how everything went with d.evin weston and those boosted cars. franklin might be a bit prideful, but reckless was always more of lamar’s thing.

          “ yeah, uh, no offense man, but you the last person i need to receive a lecture from. ” trevor might mean well, but that doesn’t mean that franklin wants to hear it. “ i figure that’s about like the pot callin’ the kettle black. ”

          she is visibly uncomfortable by him; as has always been the case, really. trevor was always so unpredictable and unnerving for her to be around. she’d thought she’d left t.revor philips behind once they were thrown into witness protection and sent out to los santos. but, unsurprisingly, he found them again.

          doing her best to mask her discomfort, amanda lets out a half-sigh, half-scoff at what he says. she knows that he’s just trying to get a rise out of her, but there are other ways he could do that without bringing her children into it.

          “ what’re you doing here, trevor? ” she finally asks. “ y’know, if you plan on stickin’ around a while, maybe don’t try to put down the kids who - oddly enough, for whatever reason - adore you. ”

    “Sure.”

    Niko’s reply was pretty CHARITABLE, at least. There was some truth to that, though he wasn’t too sure what Trevor’s angle was in saying so. If there was one. Still, he was pretty used to just taking what he could. Though...well, he didn’t pick how he was raised or to buy into a war that he was still too young to fully understand, but he had a CHOICE in the latter. His aunt offered him an out with Roman all those years ago, but he wanted to fight. So, he stayed. Everything after the war? That was a choice, as much as a part of him that wanted to defend the feeling that he didn’t have one.

    “I guess we do, up until it becomes an excuse. Are you going to give me life advice?”

    The word left him with a rather apparent sense of resignation--Niko wasn’t NEW to this process, as much as he was UNFAMILIAR with most people he ran into in this part of the country. He knew the general run-around for things like this, though he was a little more hesitant to just start handing over his money these days. If the fee really was extra than what he would usually be willing to pay. Still, he sniffed, hands tucked into his pockets as he raised his eyebrows somewhat. 

    “Well, what is this fee then? If it is more than what I can give, I would like to know before I get into this.”

    At the protest, Niko found himself pausing as he cast him a look with a tight brow.

    A look of mild CONFUSION settled in his expression--not so much at Niko disagreeing with the hesitation, but rather the choice of WORD. Honestly, he had been hoping for a little more of an explanation of what the hell he was to be doing--it hadn’t stopped him before in the past. Yet...well, he had told himself he wouldn’t be doing a LOT of things that he ended up going back on.

    “I do not understand what this HINKY is--” he replied with a notable tension in his tone, “Something is wrong, right? What is it?”

    Niko had met many people who had issued him a fairly similar warning--some had more BARK than BITE.

    This time, however? Well, he could admit that EVERYTHING about the other man set him on edge. Still, he kept his expression rather even, not one to really one to bow down at the uttering of THREATS. Though, perhaps it was more of one disguised as a WARNING this time. In the moment, he couldn’t help but wish for at least the familiarity of the personalities of Liberty City--Los Santos was similar, but out here?

    It was DIFFERENT.

    “Interesting. I can give you the same warning,” he replied, “I have barely done anything, what do you want?”
