I was looking through my copy of Gleanings by Neal Shusterman and I came across one of my favourite quotes from A martian minute (paraphrased because I had to translate it from spanish):

"Goddard, von Braun, Musk. These great scientific minds from the mortal age made it possible for us to be on Mars today." (said by a teacher)

"But you're wrong. Musk wasn't a scientist, but a businessman with a lot of money." [...] "There's no greatness in spending all your money to send a can to an uninhabitable planet." (Carson Lusk, future Scythe Goddard's response)

This might be the only time I agree with Scythe Goddard.

Some Scythe Morrison/Joel headcanons cause I miss him:

-Joel was so excited for his cupcake when he became an actual scythe. I mean denim robes meant denim cupcake right? A jupcake perhaps. The utter heartbreak he felt when it was just an off blue colored cupcake was unreal.

-Joel has a hard time making lasting friends. He talks to people and makes em laugh and they think hes cute which he thinks is the perfect recipe for validation! But it's not, and often he finds himself feeling empty. Goddard was the first person to make him feel validated after joining the New Order Scythes, then he realized that wasnt right either. It wasnt a true need for him. He was just a tool. That's why Greyson's proposition struck a cord with him. That's why he joined, even if he was screwed either way.

-After the whole incident on the atoll, Loriana and Joel end up being best friends. Not in a romantic way or anything. Just, genuinely best friends. They look to each other a lot for comfort in the coming travels.
