I don’t want to fall in love. If I ever did that, I think I’d have a heart attack.
Strength was more important than anything to Maya. Absolutely anything. She had to be seen as brave and strong by everyone around her, and she would much rather be feared and respected than be loved and looked down on. She walks with a hard outer shell, her sentences short and snappy when talking to strangers. She was never one to believe in love, thinking it temporary and only destined to make her look weak. Maya hates being a freshman - she’s so quick to grow up and get older. The moment she’s older, as Maya believes, she’ll be important, and she just wants to be important real quick.
As long as you don’t get on the girl’s bad side, though, Maya is an absolute sweetheart. Being raised in Nottingham, she comes complete with a British accent, one she likes to twist and play with so she ends up sound silly and ‘posh,’ if only to amuse her friends. She’s the one friend always full of energy - the type to suggest a watergun war in the middle of a drought. As long as you don’t anger her or make her fall in love with you, Maya is more than likely to treat you with care and respect.
You make me glow, but I cover it up, and I’m putting my defenses up.
Maya had been dying to head on over to the States for ages. Her family went before she was born, so she was the only one who hadn’t gone. She really wanted to go, though, especially considering how much she missed her grandfather, who moved there when she was a toddler. So when he fell ill, Maya had mixed feelings - worried for his health, but excited that she finally got to see him, and see the country of America that she heard so much about.
And every time I try to be myself, it comes out like a cry for help.
↳ Carter Evans: Oh, Maya’s big brother. They got along pretty well, though Maya was prone to throwing temper tantrums around him, pushing him away when she needed her brother most. But they loved each other, and everyone in the school could see that.
↳ Amber Dixon: Amber and Maya are awfully close friends, even if Maya does find her to be a bit full of herself, always taking charge the way she does. But Maya likes the way she can be a leader, and Amber likes the way Maya can tell her when she’s doing something wrong, and they’re able to balance each other out.
↳ Carmen Agro: Maya doesn't really know what to think of her. On one hand, her need for doing dangerous things that could potentially get her hurt intrigues Maya. If she ever bothered to try the stuff out it would prove to the world that she was brave. But on the other hand, it also frustrated her because no one should be that reckless with their own life.
