Flashback: Femi’s Run in with the Mayor Who: @wolfesque Where: Carter’s place
Cold. It was starting to seep into Femi’s bones, the feeling of the cold asphalt from the alley he was tucked away in. The sound of cars zooming past seemed so distant, the lights too far out of reach. Femi knew he needed to get up, needed to move some part of his body, but he couldn’t find the urge to do it. The metallic scent of blood was everywhere. And it was everywhere. His nose, his mouth. His stomach. Swelling. Femi could feel that too. He didn’t need to mirror to know his face likely looked far from recognizable.
Shifting slightly to try to adjust from his sprawled position, Femi let out a sharp breath at the pain that spark through his body. A rib might be broken. Something that hurt like a bitch. He tried again, bracing himself with his hands against the ground so he could lift up into a sitting position. Fuck that hurt. Femi looked down, his hands covered in blood that he knew belonged to himself. Leaning up against the wall of a building, Femi let out a cold laugh, eyes barely open from the swelling.
For a few minutes, he faded out. The blood loss most likely. When he came to again, it was still quiet and the night was still blanketing Fable City thankfully. With a little more energy, Femi pushed himself up onto his feet and hugged the brick wall, edging his way out from the alley. God, he hoped tonight was a night that Fable City would be asleep and quiet.
It seemed crazy to think just two hours ago he’d been in his office working on putting everything together into files for the story he’d just recently released. It was the tell-all that everyone needed to know about their beloved mayor, every single little dirty secret right on the front page of the newspaper for every Fable City resident. Maybe Femi should have known. He knew better than to go against the mayor. But he’d grown tired and anger of being under Eric’s thumb, leash around his neck. Well, Femi wasn’t very good at taking orders.
The result? Femi broken and bruised in far too many places thanks to the mayor and his thugs. The hospital wasn’t an option for Femi, not when it meant a report would have to be filed since he was pretty sure the ‘I fell down the stairs’ wasn’t going to cut it. Really, there was only one place Femi could think of where to go.
It took far too long from what it felt like to get there, Femi completely out of energy and pretty sure he’d left a nice puddle of blood in a few spots on his way. He’d gotten to the door and leaned against the frame for a moment, eyes closed and breath ragged. His nose might be broken considering breathing from it meant nothing but pain. With a shaking arm he lifted his hand to knock on the door, two slow hard thumps that he was only able to manage. God, please be home Carter.
