They say that they cannot afford to live off of YouTube anymore, which I understand, its not a great way to make money for such a large company. So they are making a streaming service. Im trying to understand their logic with this because theyre going to end up making even less money through this. Most of their viewers are poor, young, or from another country where they physically are unable to get the service. Its 6 dollars because they wanted it to be affordable while they have no understanding of what affordable actually means. They originally talked about removing all of their content from YouTube and putting it behind the paywall, but have backed from that now. I get wanting to make more money, I do. But this is not the way. The way is putting a new thing behind a paywall on something like Patreon. The way is doing less of everything with their production. Most people were there since Buzzfeed Unsolved. We dont need the elaborate sets and effects. I know personally that Ive stopped watching a lot of their content *because* of all the elaborate sets and effects, its feels disingenuous. I hope they make the money theyre looking for but I sincerely doubt they will
And I keep seeing people that are saying that artists deserve to be paid for their art and we arent entitled to it for free. And yes! 1 million percent agree! But they arent entitled to our money, either. And its not going to feel any less like betrayal when one of your owners has a Tesla. Or when youre already getting hundreds of thousands of dollars monthly from Patreon. Or when youre selling out of merch almost immediately. Artist deserves to be paid and arent entitled to give us stuff for free. But they arent entitled to our money or our support either
