Today my dd2/kid4 Diantha and I got kind-of-matching silly tattoos, based on knitwear designer Casapinka’s character Sharon in Security, whose arch-nemesis is Jean in IT. It’s Morse code for “Jean from IT is a Skunk Butt.”

so for my knitters/crocheters, if you were down for the pussyhat or maybe liked the general idea but felt left out or spoken over in the execution/the fallout after the Women’s March, you may want to check out this project. The organizer has a list of BIPOC yarn businesses participating as well if you need materials. 

Knitting a bandanna doesn’t save the world, no.Wearing a piece of clothing doesn’t mean you’re someone that members of marginalized communities can count on or “one of the good ones.” But we’re in this for the long haul, and part of the long haul means recreation and sources of renewal to keep yourself going. This seems like a nice way to maintain focus and dedication while taking that space to relax and renew myself, to give to a friend needing comfort, to be a personal reminder of what kind of community I want to live in and what I need to do to make it.  Check it out, maybe it’ll speak to you too. The sea of pink in DC was a flawed but powerful image. I like the thought of a purple thread to stitch us together.
