Rustfeather and Foxpaw find a loner queen by the border with the Wilds, and takes her back to Cascadeclan’s camp. Her name is Storm Warning.

She dies shortly after kitting that night, leaving her four newborn kits behind. Cascadeclan hasn’t had healthy kits in many moons, and desperately need the new warriors the kits will one day become.

They are given the names Shockkit, Lightningkit, Thunderkit, and Flashkit in honour of their mother.

The kits are given to the only nursing queen in the clan, Frostleaf. Her own kits didn’t survive.

Moon 1

Thunderkit is curious about the herbs on the highest shelf in Rainypaws’ den. Rainypaws decided to teach her about the poisonous plants, and why they were so far out of reach.

Iceclaw catches Foxpaw sneaking a bite of fresh-kill before catching something for Frostleaf.

Shockkit and Flashkit listen in on Lightningkit talking with their adoptive father, Smokestar. She thinks Rainypaws’ full medicine cat name is weird, and makes him sound like an apprentice.

Moon 3

After being distraught for an entire moon, Lightningkit confronts Smokestar about what Frostleaf told her, and nearly starts crying again as she asks, “Am I not your kit?”

Smokestar sneaks her out of camp, to explain to her why Frostleaf said what she had. He tells her that she and her brothers came from outside the clan as a blessing from the skies, and that while they aren’t his by blood, he still loves her and her brothers.

Rustfeather, Flashkit, and Iceclaw share a carp together, the meal ending in a small fishing lesson when Flashkit asks Iceclaw how she caught it. Flashkit manages to catch a strange minnow in the camp’s underground stream!

Frostleaf and Rosemask go on a border patrol to get out of camp for a bit, following along the thunderpath between Cascadeclan and Blazeclan. They find an injured loner bleeding out on the side of the thunderpath, and bring him back to the camp. Days later when he wakes up, he thanks the clan for their hospitality, and tells them his name- Bright. He doesn’t know if he will stay yet, but is convinced to stay until he is healed.

Moon 5

Bright’s injury has finally healed! It’s scarred pretty bad, but Bright doesn’t mind. They’ve decided to join the clan, but want to keep their name.

Thunderpaw wants to be a medicine cat, but doesn’t like how Rainypaws looks at her and her siblings when he thinks they can’t see. He looks scared, but they haven’t done anything bad!

…Right?

Due to this moon taking so long to get out, and there being quite literally nothing else interesting that happened, we’ve got a short one today. But! You all should start thinking about which of the siblings you’d like to follow the story of, because soon, we’ll be choosing our main character for the rest of the comic.

Moon 2

Thunderkit and Shockkit stay up late to draw constellations in the glow lichen.

Foxpaw earns his warrior name, Foxtail, and is commended for his optimistic attitude and excellent tracking skills. Rosemask and Iceclaw cheer the loudest for their son.

Frostleaf is frustrated with Lightningkit’s bossiness and rudeness, and in a moment of anger, tells Lightningkit that she isn’t even her real mother. Lightningkit is left upset, confused, and wondering if her siblings are really hers. They all look like Smokestar and Frostleaf, after all…

Moon 4

Iceclaw and Rosemask find Wolfpelt waiting for them at the Whisperclan border. He is escorted to camp, where he informs Rustfeather and Smokestar of increased hostility from Iceclan. The coming leafbare seems to be a harsh one…

Much to Rainypaws’ chagrin, most of Cascadeclan has caught fleas. Itchy cats make for poor tempers, and Foxtail snaps at Frostleaf.

Shockkit confides in Bright that he doesn’t see stars. He is afraid it means something is wrong with him- what could it mean that their ancestors aren’t in his skies? Bright does his best to comfort Shockkit.

Moon 6

Smokestar takes Flashpaw and Lightningpaw as his own apprentices, and gives Shockpaw to Rustfeather, and Thunderpaw to Iceclaw.

Lightningpaw spends half a moon in the medicine den after attacking a Blazeclan apprentice and having her throat get clawed up. She boasts about the scar when she is well enough to talk again.

Thunderpaw and Iceclaw explore the tunnels under their territory, and end up in an unstable tunnel. The ceiling caves in, burying Iceclaw alive but allowing Thunderpaw to escape unharmed. Rosemask is inconsolable and refuses to speak to Thunderpaw, while Foxtail mourns quietly. Thunderpaw is reassigned to Rainypaws.

Lightningpaw

Bloodthirsty, strong swimmer. She wants to prove herself to her clan, and will go to any lengths to bring glory to them. Even if it means using her own kin as leverage.

Flashpaw

Daydreaming, naturally talented fighter. He follows happily in Lightningpaw’s footsteps, but dreams of more.

Shockpaw

Nervous, reluctant follower. Shockpaw just wants everyone to be happy and safe.

Thunderpaw

Quiet, stars-touched. She knows more than she lets on, and what little she has seen scares her.

Oh! You can also send in asks to the characters if you want, and I’ll draw a lil doodle of the character answering the question or whatever was asked. There’s more going on here than just the surface level moon updates, so asking the Cascade kitties stuff is one way to get more information ;)

I don’t have an update schedule, but for now the art block is gone, and I have nothing else to work on! There’ll be at least one, maybe two more moons coming out very soon.
