Prompt - Can you do a Union J one where it's with Casey and it's about how the boys deal with George leaving, how they find Casey to join the band, how he fits in with the band and bonds with the boys? Please? That'll be greatly appreciated. Thnx xx
------
When one of your bandmates leave the band, it’s really difficult to fill that gap. When Union J parted ways with George, it felt seriously difficult to find somebody else to step in George’s place. But then came in Casey. Freshly out of one boyband, Stereo Kicks, Casey hadn’t wasted any time in mingling up with the Union J boys. He earned his place in the Union J band and was soon that member of the band that had soon won their hearts.
------
Obviously, it hadn’t been easy. Neither for Casey nor for the Union J boys. George leaving Union J had brought mixed feelings forward. There was a mixture of anger, jealousy, hurt feelings along with the feeling of being proud, happy and supportive of their youngest once bandmate. George had left a somewhat type of hole in the band and in the boy’s life too. While they actively searched for a new bandmate, they were not quite ready to give that new bandmate the spot that once belonged to their baby brother.
------
For Casey also, things were quite difficult. Casey had once been part of a boyband named Stereo Kicks. There he’d been one of an eight piece band. While it was that band that had done a lot for Casey and he himself would have to admit that Stereo Kicks gave him name, fame and success, Casey parted ways with Stereo Kicks due to a lot of misconceptions, and mostly to make a name of himself and not be lost among others. Union J provided that platform for him and Casey readily made the move that was best for his career.
------
Making his place in the band took time. Casey himself could see that the boys had a special spot for George and wasn’t going to give that to Casey anytime soon.
“Look Casey, George was our little brother. Don’t mind if it takes much time to… You know… To really get into it…” Jaymi had once admitted.
“We can’t just replace George. Not in the band but in our lives” Josh sighed.
“I know… I myself had different big brothers and little brothers in my own band. I’m not looking for George’s spot. I’ll make my own place” Casey said and unknowingly had already warmed the boys’ hearts.
“Tell you what? Let’s make a deal. While you hold on to your big brothers and little brothers from your previous band, we’ll hold onto George being our baby brother but alongside we’ll try and make space for another brother in our lives. Also, we’ll try being a brother to you” JJ had promised.
And surely Casey did that exact thing. He never took George’s place. He simply created a place for himself.
------
Union J probably was not going to be what they were before. George really had a special place in that band and in the boys’ lives but this was a new Union J along with Casey. And the boys could surely make a place for Casey because Casey was not going to take anyone’s spot. He was simply creating his own identity. And the boys were going to be by his side throughout it all.
Casey’s sister is very Tom boyish. She’s a rough housing, energetic little terror whose got a whole wall full of trophies from soccer, gymnastics and track running.
Darcy Jones loves to do anything that gets her moving and has anything to do other team work or competition. She likes getting muddy and skinned knees, feeling hers muscles burn and the thrill of getting a good score in any regard.
But she’s also very happy to be a girl.
One day she tells Casey about how girls at school mocked her for wearing a skirt because ‘aren’t you a boy?’ And it left her feeling unsure.
Casey listened to his sister and tried his best as a male to explain to her that a woman can be anything she wants, feminine or masculine or both or neither. He knew she wasn’t fully getting it and that their lack of a mother figure in their life was making it a far more complicated situation than it normally would be.
So, Casey decided if he couldn’t explain it to his sister he’d show her instead.
He started small and got his nails done.
Not black nail polish, but almond shaped acrylics with black French tips. Simple, because she didn’t have a lot of money, but loud.
Darcy noticed immediately and at first was just upset that he didn’t take her with him before he explained it was a spontaneous choice. (A white lie that would do more good than bad.)
She was confused and asked if men could have their nails done and instead of giving her a deep talk the older Jones just scoffed and said “obviously.”
It worked far better than their previous conversation.
He started to wear rings and changed out his simple balled earrings to large spiked ones that stood out more. He was cross dressing or wearing drag, but it was small simple things that were seen as feminine and that some ways highlighted his masculinity more.
It worked beautifully and soon Darcy was asking to get her second lobes done.
She was still a tomboy and still coming home with muddy shoes, but she was more confident. She felt more sure of herself and wasn’t trying to psychoanalyse herself.
When she came home a little down but still smiling he knew she was going to be alright as she explained the girls picked on her again for a pink jumper she was wearing.
Knowing they went to the same school and knowing that nobody really messed with him after he got kicked of the hockey team for being too violent and broke the pervy teachers nose, Casey decided to give one last example of how a gender wasn’t based on things like clothes and expression.
Darcy was unsure when her brother put in the ankle length skirt, a simple black one with a few layers and plenty of ‘spinning’ room as Casey demonstrated. She was worried he was going to be bullied or make things worse.
But she trusted her brother and went along.
People did look and some people did giggle or fake gag.
Yet some people seemed to find it cool. Not in the sense of ‘you look pretty’ but in the sense of ‘fuck yeah, screw standards!’ His old teammates, at least the ones who liked him, gave him grins and wolf whistles and called him pet names. They laughed with him and asked him if he was hiding his ‘hockey stick’ under all that skirt.
Which, sure Casey did it to reassure his sister, but he wasn’t going to pretend he didn’t like the attention, good or bad. He felt awesome as hell, like Kurt Cobain or Willem Defoe. He like having nails and rings and he found the skirt comfortable and giving him the urge to do some sick wrestling moves for some reason. Maybe so he could see it spin when he whooped ass.
April knew about it as she went to the same school and taught him basic eyeliner.
The turtles weee very confused at first, more so by how Casey brushed off their teasing around it far easer than he did any other jabs.
Eventually they adjusted and when Casey took his sister shopping for school clothes the next year and she picked out several skirts and ‘girly’ tops he knew that it was well worth it. Helping his sister to understand how fashion was meant to be ended up revealing something to himself too, which was exactly like his little sister to inadvertently do.
By far his favourite thing about his new found fashion taste was when Karai, badass and harass Karai, complimented his nails with genuine respect.
Prompt - I was hoping that you could write me a Stereo Kicks one where a fan makes fun of Casey's lisp and then the boys are all really supportive of him when he gets upset? xx thanks
------
Casey lived with his lisp since a major part of his childhood. It wasn’t that bad. Like every little kid, he had trouble to pronounce his ‘r’ and ‘s’ but with time, his parents notice that he hadn’t let go of his lisp. It only got bad with time. Eventually, his parents had to sign him up for speech therapy. Luckily, it worked in his favor. With a few speech practices, a few voice exercises, Casey had nearly gotten over his lisp. It would only resurface if he was sick, upset, scared, sad or nervous. Other than that, Casey had full control over his lisp.
------
Casey never kept his lisp a secret. Ever since Stereo Kicks was formed, Casey had let the boys know about his lisp. He’d even offered that he leaves the band if they think his lisp might be a hindrance in the band’s career but thankfully, the boys were all supportive.
Or in Jake’s words, “as long as you don’t mess the songs up, I guess we’re all okay.”
At least he knew that the boys had his back and didn’t see his lisp as a shortcoming of his. Casey had never been so relieved in life.
------
Recently, the boys had had a fully packed schedule. In midst of interviews, public appearances and all, it was a surprise how they could still stand up and continue with their band related work. But in between of all those stress, Casey was slowly nearing his breaking point. Even the boys could notice the little slip ups in the boy’s speech. They hoped to wrap up their meet and greet as quick as possible so that they all could get some rest but never once did it cross their mind that Casey’s speech troubles could bring them some more troubles.
------
Sitting in the middle of Jake and Charlie, Casey was trying his best to keep up with last event of the day. Up till now he was doing fairly well. He would manage a smile for the girls, sign their stuffs and tried to keep the conversations short without appearing rude. It was going fine until a group of girls heard Casey singing softly to himself.
Can we locate whele we went wlong?
It'sh dliving me clazy
It'sh tiling daily
Though she tlies herl besht to shtay shlong,
I'm feeling sho guilty
Just want to be guilt flee
Casey hadn’t even realized that there were people who were listening to him until some bitter laughs were heard.
------
The taunts were soon heard.
“Shit, you can’t even sing properly, how did you even get in the band?” Casey heard one of the girls say.
“No wonder why Stereo Kicks isn’t becoming a huge success since they have a band member that cannot even talk properly let alone sing” another one said.
“Who shaid this? I can talk plopelly, okay? ” Casey replied, getting defensive.
“You mean ‘said’ and ‘properly’ right?” one of the girls asked, laughing openly at Casey.
Biting his lip, Casey looked down, trying to keep the tears at bay when he felt a hand on his knee and unmistakably heard Jake’s voice, “get out of here, girls.”
Looking up, Casey found that Charlie and Reece were crouching down in front of him as the others were looking at the group of bullies that were being mean to Casey.
Barclay joined in too, saying, “Ladies, I will have to ask you to leave from here. You can’t be a fan of the band and also be mean to Casey.”
“Yes, Casey does has a lisp but he’s, if not the best, then one of the best in the band.” Tom said.
“Leave” James pressed.
“Before we call the security” Chris added.
As the girls made their way out, Casey managed to say, “I want to go home.”
Sighing, the boys nodded, cutting their meet and greet short.
------
Casey avoided any conversation with his bandmates, closing his eyes as soon as he sat in the van. Thankfully, nobody rushed him to talk but the hand on his knee was back there. But Casey didn’t have the heart to shrug the hand of their youngest bandmate away. If Charlie kept his hand on Casey’s knee on the whole journey then Reece managed to hold onto Casey’s sweater. Both youngest wanted to silently offer some comfort. Thankfully, nobody commented on neither that nor the fact that Casey wasn’t pushing the two youngest away.
------
Nobody expected Casey to say anything when they reached their apartment, so they were quite surprised when Casey stopped them.
“I’m really shorry” Casey lisped again. He was too upset to bother about it now.
“Hey, it’s not your fault Casey. It’s not something you can control, right?” Jake said, wrapping an arm around the upset looking boy.
“But…” Casey trailed off.
“It’s those girls’ faults not yours” James said.
“Don’t blame yourself, Casey.” Chris added.
“Casey, we’ve told you this earlier also. Your lisp is not an inconvenience to us.” Tom said.
“Yeah, don’t be upset because of it” Barclay said.
“I don’t like it when you’re upset” Reece added.
“Yeah, me too. I like it when you’re happy” Charlie said, earning a chuckle from Casey.
Letting a smile creep on his face, Casey pulled Charlie and Reece in a hug as the others joined in too.
------
As long as his lisp was not an inconvenience to his bandmates, Casey didn’t have to bother about. Though, Casey always felt that his lisp was his biggest inconvenience.
