Is there a problem, Commander Reyes? Lord Fiore’s eyes narrowed as he watched the vampire closely.

No problem, Lord. Korey looked towards Ravi before again meeting the king’s gaze. Obviously, I understand your decision. It’s just not common for you not to inform me of such things. We not only patrol your streets, we also guard your highness & his castle. 

It’s the dawn of a new era, Ravi smirked. 

You are both correct. As my adviser, Ravi is trusted to make decisions & aid me in my rule over Wraith. I understand & appreciate your concerns, commander. If you wish to get to know your newest king, you & Mr. Reyes are invited to join us in the castle at any time. As a matter of fact, I think that is a splendid idea. Turning back, he looked to the dark fairy who still stood pouting. Fairy, arrange something for myself, the commander & our mates. 

Thank you, Lord, Korey nodded respectfully to them both.

Congratulations on your new marriage, commander, Ravi beamed.

Remembering that Ravi had helped to make it happen, Korey looked over his shoulder towards Elliot with a soft smile. Thank you, highness. And to you as well.

Finally, continuing on with the joyful announcements... Vincenzo continued.

Jumping up from where he’s been sitting quietly, Ravi shoved Casey aside as he leaned adoringly on the king. My turn, he grinned, kissing Vincenzo sweetly on the cheek.

Mr. Singh & I have also married recently. As such, I expect you to offer him the same respect that you have all given to me. 

Wait, wait... Korey slid off of his stool to stand as well. I thought Mr. Singh was your adviser.

He is, Vincenzo affirmed. He is also my husband.

You didn’t think that he would change the rules for you, the commander, but wouldn’t also take companionship himself, did you? He is your kind & faithful leader. If anyone deserves it, Ravi shrugged.

Of course, Korey nodded in agreement. I suppose I’m just a bit caught off guard as I was not informed of this previously.

The arrival of Mr. Keys was expected as we’ve all known for some time that as our army has grown, the commander has been in need of some extra help. As you can see, he is not the only new member of our family. As he spoke, he opened his hands & waved them to each side of him towards Elliot & Ravi. I’ve recently made some decisions, some much needed updates to old rules.

Updated rules? Ethan blurted out, raising a brow inquisitively. 

Don’t speak out of turn, the dark fairy snapped, pointing towards the officer.

Acting as if he didn’t notice his assistant behind him, Vincenzo nodded. Yes, Mr. Deadwyler. The commander has served me well for over a century now. For his continued hard work & loyalty, I’ve reversed one of my earlier laws. 

Now, I must have you all understand that this does not apply to you or to your men. It’s my belief that the commander & I have more than proven ourselves not only to you, but to the citizens of Wraith. Lord Fiore stopped, waiting to see if anyone dared to challenge him. That said, I would like to introduce you to the man on the far left. You may recognize him as a former civilian. As of tonight, he is officially Mr. Reyes, the commander’s husband. 

Murmurs came from all of the officers but it was Nate whose voice rang out above all the rest. So what does that mean for me?

Nothing, Mr. Keys, Vincenzo responded coolly. Your duties remain as we discussed. You are to become the commander’s right hand, just as Casey is to me. Mr. Camden is simply becoming the commander’s mate, nothing more. In no way is he meant to replace or demote you. 

And what about Otto? Nate pressed. 

Mr. Woodall is my prisoner & I have yet to decide his fate at this time. Vincenzo paused again, continuing to stare at Nate who he could tell was still thinking about the situation that was being laid out before him. Any other questions, Mr. Keys?

When will I get to see Gabriel?

You don’t, Casey laughed incredulously. You may as well give up on that one, buddy.

Mr. Keys, Mr. Angelo has already been wed to Mr. Whalen. At this time, I ask that you stay focused on your position. Is that understood? Nate nodded hesitantly. Good. Now if nobody else wishes to interrupt, I would like to move forward.

Chattering could be heard throughout the room as the militia members all settled into their places. Immediately after dismissing their teams for the night, they’d gathered together under Lord Fiore’s orders. It wasn’t often that he would call a meeting so each of them were eager to see what the announcements were about.

Gentlemen, the king started softly. 

They didn’t seem to hear him as all of the different conversations continued. Hey! the commander roared as he rubbed his head, taking a seat between Vincenzo & the man who would soon become his husband. Shut the fuck up & listen, alright?

Quickly they all quieted. Giving a small nod to the commander, Lord Fiore tried again. Gentlemen, thank you for joining me tonight. I know you’ve all had a long night of work so I will try not to keep you too long. There are some changes to discuss, new faces to meet, that I want you all to know about.

First & foremost, I think most of you have met Mr. Keys. If you have not, I ask that you take the time to introduce yourself, the king continued flatly, motioning towards the man seated in front of him. Mr. Keys is an important member of our team, joining us to become the commander’s assistant. 

Welcome, Keys, Ethan mumbled to the man seated beside him. 

Yeah, whatever, Nate grumbled in response, slumping forward. Everyone in the room seemed to be focused on him. After days in a cell, his mind on the man that he loved, he felt antsy. 

The vampire beside him shrugged. Only natural, he chuckled. None of us wanted to be here when we first arrived. You’ll get used to it & realize it’s really not such a bad deal. 

If you say so, Nate sneered.

Something wrong, Mr Keys? Casey asked, stepping forward slightly. The slender man only glared at him without answering.

Nate? Korey jumped in.

Rolling his eyes, Nate finally answered to the one man he trusted in all of Wraith. I’m fine, commander. Just agitated & wondering when I get to leave the prison I’ve been trapped in.

Very soon, Korey nodded in understanding. An area is being prepared for you on my property. It’ll only be a few more days.

I ate your fucking cats! Ravi roared, rage coursing through him as his husband continued to stare him down.

You have got to be fucking kidding, Casey huffed, pinching the bridge of his nose tighter as he wished he could be anywhere else in this moment. All of the bickering was giving him a headache & considering he was no longer alive, that was quite a feat. 

You are a monster, Ravi Singh. You’re a monster & an asshole & I am SO glad that we are through because I can’t stand to look at your girly face any longer, Emanuel screamed, his voice growing hoarse. Where are my kittens, Ravi? Where are they?!

Ravi, Lord Fiore’s calm voice cut in. Please tell him what you’ve done with the kittens. Then I need you to pack your belongings. For now, you will join Casey & I at the castle.

Ravi let out a low growl in defeat but he finally agreed, wanting to do whatever he needed to please Vincenzo. They are in the dog house in front of the stairs.

Alone & freezing?!

With an old, thick blanket I found in the attic, a dish of water & some kitten chow. There? I’m not such a fucking monster after all, am I? Ravi snorted, finally backing down & folding his arms across his chest proudly. 

Emanuel turned towards the king. Thank you, sir. Thank you for coming & for helping me to find my babies. I am very happy that you’ve asked me to help you with the animals as they come to Wraith, Lord Vincenzo. Please let me know if there’s ever anything that you need from me. Looking now towards the vampire’s winged assistant, Emanuel gave him a weak smile as well. Thank you for coming too, Cassie.

Ravi snickered as his husband disappeared quickly out the front door. Yes, Cassie. Thanks for coming.

Emanuel continued to push to get information about their newest pets but was interrupted by a soft knocking at the front door. Ravi jumped up immediately to answer it, relieved for an excuse to get away from the conversation. A wide grin spread across his cheeks when he saw Lord Fiore’s assistant step in. Hello, Casey. To what do I owe this pleasure? he asked though he’d been awaiting this moment since he left the castle the day before. 

Don’t look so smug, the dark fairy mumbled. Lord Fiore has come for the visit you discussed. Now, would you mind being so kind as to give me a tour of your humble adode?

Where is the king? Ravi pushed the fairy aside, opening his door again to see the Lord waiting just outside. Come in Lord Fiore. I am so pleased you were able to come. As soon as the vampire stepped inside, Ravi threw himself enthusiastically into the man’s strong arms. 

Thank you for the warm greeting, Vincenzo smiled. When he realized Ravi wasn’t ready to step back, he too wrapped both arms around the man’s slender body, returning his embrace. 

Casey shook his head in dismay. He was sure Ravi was someone who shouldn’t be so easily trusted
