I do have animal crossings, I just haven't touched it in three months and feel and extreme guilt and a need to restart the whole game if I power it up again which will mean another black hole for my time and attention to sink into and I have a LOT of black holes already sobbing IS IT BEAUTIFUL THOUGH. ;A;
addendum to previous: it's worth noting that that's what i think as of only having finished *mute's route. it's possible that we might see more-- i haven't seen the mysterious block M3 yet-- or that harem route *hyun-ae and *mute, who together seem about four times as perceptive as either of them alone are-- might have some new insight about what i've already seen. they already pointed out something about kim so-yi's story i didn't catch before that made me welp away into space forever
i'd also like to hear your opinion on Old *Mute's selection of documents; going back through the docs on the third day reinforced for me that some of the messages just don't seem to matter at all in regard to what happened; i have some ideas on this myself, but you seem to possess a very commanding and poignant opinion on this game's world, so what do you think? there are a number of blocks that seem to have little to do with the thrust of what old *mute is trying to tell *mute about the rise of the current regime, since their significance is less obvious than things like the records office minutes of the council meetings or the story of heo seo-yeong. the more personal stories of kim so-yi, heo seung-bok, and heo ae-jeong.
but even though old *mute, even at the end of her life, had an imperfect and biased view of what led to the downfall of herself and the old culture, still had some recognition of the role that ryu and eun-a's social programs played in their rise to power. she wasn't quite totally clear-sighted about it, but she's not dumb. she was aware of the way that the new council men talked over her and didn't respect her because of her gender, and she realized that things like the meritocracy act, the shift towards writing in chinese characters, and even the motherhood credit act were important enough to include in her cache of preserved documents.
now consider who the more personal stories are about: kim so-yi, heo seung-bok, and heo ae-jeong. two heos— members of the family *mute was effectively the head of— and a kim— a member of the family that some of the main noble opponents of the new guard, like seo-yeong's husband and the old engineering councillor came from. the only commoners we hear a lot about-- mimi, mae jin-a, so-yi's husband whose name i can't remember, etc.-- are only notable insomuch as their lives intersected with these nobles.
so i think old *mute included these documents as a way of showing the impact that the ryu's regime legislative agenda had on the existing nobles— queer heo family members like seung-bok and ae-jeong were pushed into the margins of society, driven and competent professionals like so-yi were pushed out of their positions, etc. old *mute probably even realized that so-yi's research was all about solving the actual problem the motherhood credit act was ostensibly meant to serve (as opposed to its actual purpose, which was just to push women the rest of the way out of the public sphere): declining birthrates leading to a future demographic collapse.
OKAY I WASN'T KIDDING ABOUT THOSE SPOILERS FOR *MUTE'S ROUTE, STOP READING THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED IT YET
and all of that's true and relevant to what went wrong on the mugunghwa. old *mute isn't wrong to point us in the direction of these stories. when you go over all those logs again on day 3 with new *mute, she immediately recognizes why the legislation old *mute happened to include in her data was significant. when you show her a personal log, she tends to react with boredom or confusion at first (haha, i can't wait until posting day 3 screenshots won't count as mega-spoilers since boy howdy were some of her reactions to seung-bok funny), but often has stronger emotional reactions as you continue to read through them.
it's just that all of this isn't a complete picture of what happened. we— and new *mute, i guess— are left to try to put together what old *mute left out due her narrow perspective for ourselves, from the little hints and bits around the edges of the stories of the great houses of heo, kim, et al

I like listening to music on public transport, when I'm going somewhere, through my headphones. That's my favourite place. But my favourite way is probably by singing along, which isn't really possible on public transport. Shame.

The UFO Catcher 8D. Give me material possessions! Otherwise, the 10p machine. Even though you will always inevitably lose.

Hmm, I probably need to stay active and have responsibilities. I could probably go for a long time being active and having no responsibilities though! Kekekeke...Nah. I think I need both in the end.

I daydream loads. All the time. Especially when I'm not paying attention, or when I've had too much social contact and I just need some reflection time. Mostly I daydream about nothing. Like, I just go blank for a bit. But sometimes they're thematic. These days I dream about two things. Love and my hair. LOL. I really can't wait to get my haircut. Oh and love is just love, so whatever.
11. what the fuck even is the moon?
It's a mirror of the sun. It pulls the tide in. It is often associated with women because of the menstrual cycle. It's very pretty, and people really like the moon. It's quite close to earth. Jupiter has many of them, so it isn't really 'the' moon, more 'a' moon. Apparently, it has a dark side that no one ever sees.
