How was he not out of breath? You weren’t carrying anything yet he was carrying a basket filled with various foods while walking up a hill next to you. He hadn’t stopped to catch his breath and you didn’t want to ask because you were afraid he would judge you for not being in good enough shape to walk up a hill.
You reached the top of the hill and started taking deep, nearly painful breaths. Casper grabbed the blanket from the top of the basket and spread it out on the ground. He kicked off his shoes before sitting on the blanket and patted the spot next to him.
“Sit next to me, honey. I don’t want us to miss the sunset.”
You flopped down next to him. He grabbed the basket and pulled two glasses and a bottle of champagne out. He filled the glasses and handed one to you. You sipped at the yellow liquid. You polished off the first glass and poured yourself another one, aware of the amused look Casper was giving you. The alcohol made you feel a little less tired and filled your veins with a pleasant buzz.
“You know, this just might be the most romantic thing you’ve done,” You said.
The sun had begun to lower, turning the sky into various shades of orange, pink, and purple. You took a grape off of a plate that Casper had set out. The plate held fruit, cheese, and bread. You weren’t a very big fan of cheese, but it went with the rest of the food.
“Anything for you, my lady,” He smirked as he finished off his first glass of champagne.
You shook your head and leaned against his shoulder. He pulled you close and it felt like he was trying to crush you, but it was fine. It comforted you and reminded you just how much he loved you. He kissed the top of your head and unwillingly let you go. He stretched forward and grabbed a slim cardboard box out of the basket and offered it to you. You gave him a puzzled look and took it.
“It’s just chocolate, babe. Don’t be afraid to take it.”
“How much did this cost? I’ve never seen this brand and it looks fancy,” You said after examining the box.
“Don’t worry about the cost. It’s something small I can do for you before I’m busy again.”
You opened the box and plucked one of the small chocolates out. Casper looked at you expectantly as you ate it. It was sweet and smooth. It wasn’t too sugary like many chocolates were.
“It’s amazing. You should try one,” You said after you swallowed.
You grabbed another chocolate and hovered it in front on Casper’s lips. He grinned after a moment of trying to ignore you and ate the chocolate. As he took it from your hand, he lightly kissed your fingertips. You giggled and pulled your hand away.
“You’re right, it is good,” He said, stifling a laugh from your reaction to him kissing you.
He pulled you to his side and tilted his head, supporting his cheek on the top of your head. You closed your eyes as he ran his fingers through your soft hair.
“Can I ask you something?” You spoke suddenly.
“You can ask me anything, baby.”
“Why weren’t you winded when we finished climbing the hill?”
You felt his body shake from laughter. He nestled his cheek into your hair before he answered you. “I was winded. I’m just good at hiding it.”
