Castle 5x06 Commentary with Jonathan Frakes, Nathan Fillion and Luke Reichle.

I knew there was a reason this scene is extra special, it has that 'Rob Bowman' touch. I love these tiny details - of the transfer of chairs from Castle to Kate in this scene and that is where she shares with him why the show is important to her.

One of my wishes is to have a Rob Bowman commentary on every episode that he directed 😂 I know, I know.. I keep saying this, but his work on Castle is just amazing!

Last part for the 5x16 commentary. What I found interesting here was what Molly said about this scene - that it was the first time that Alexis was being affectionate towards Kate

I'm not sure if she meant the first time ever in the show or the first time since Kate and Castle got together. Because I was so sure in my mind that Alexis and Kate hugged previously before 😂 but I'm also not that curious to check... yet haha please let me know though if you know the answer haha thank you 🤍

Marlowe shared about the beauty of Rob Duncan's score in this scene and the meaning behind it. He also touched on an important word that was mentioned in this scene:

"For long-time loyal fans of the show, you guys know that "Always", the word "Always", has a special role in the show. And the fact that his father says it to him, nice little echoes."

I only have one thing to say about this part

What is it with Castle men and always going big with their gift giving? 😂

I'm unsure about making Castle as a hero in Alexis's eyes though.. because doesn't Alexis already see her father as one? Yes, he can act like a child, but for all the times that he's always been there for her, am sure Alexis does see him as one.

But then, at the end of this episode, before they entered the loft, Alexis does have this moment with Castle where she thanked him for coming to get her. So I can understand Bowman's insight.

This is my favourite part of the commentary! Especially when Rob said:

"It makes no sense for her to kick that door and the guy who lives there is dead. But it just seemed that for Beckett who kicked the chair over out of frustration and, you know, some justification because of the lady's behaviour.. but kicking the door in was just another expression of how she actually can't do anything to really help Castle, nor stand in front of him and protect him from flying bullets."

Rob Bowman, everyone, and his metaphors 🤯 This is why I love when he's on the commentary.. learning about stuff like these - the big map being a metaphor, why they close on Alexis on the screen at the end..

Makes me want to go to every Rob Bowman episode and find more of these details that I never really noticed before.. like, there is a purpose to every detail!

Love episodes like this where we get to explore different sides to the character and this time, the focus is on Richard Castle. Also excellently delivered btw!

We're so used to seeing Castle as the "nine-year-old on a sugar rush".. So seeing him here, as Rob said, completely outside of his comfort zone is both heartbreaking and amazing to watch!
