ohhh boy okay. under a cut bc i got excited

Season 1

→ Flowers For Your Grave (this is where it all began, and it gives me so many feelings I could cry)

→ A Chill Goes Through Her Veins (the first time Castle really understands how much hurt Kate has suffered, and the first time she starts to let him in)

→ Home Is Where the Heart Stops (Kate in a dress, so much sexual tension I could die, amazing one liners, Beckett having breakfast with the Castles)

Season 2

→ When the Bough Breaks (it kills me to see them both realise how much they don’t want the partnership to be over. Also, that dress)

→ Sucker Punch (I don’t want to talk about it)

→ Tick Tick Tick | Boom (This is such an incredibly tense two parter. It’s also canonically when Castle realised he was in love I’m fine don’t touch me)

Season 3

→ Lucky Stiff (such great comedy in this ep and also them at a club that’s fine yep)

→ Setup | Countdown (duh)

→ TLADILA (she’s hurting so much and he wants to help so bad and he can’t but just being there for her makes it a little easier bye)

Season 4

→ Cops & Robbers (ALL TIME FAVOURITE EPISODE OF ANYTHING EVER)

→ Cuffed (just the beginning of them waking up together makes this worthy but the rest is also fab)

→ The Blue Butterfly (honestly this is a great ep but it’s here 99% for Stana’s aesthetic)

Season 5

→ Murder He Wrote (it’s so fun to see them out of the city and figuring out their new relationship)

→ The Lives of Others (brings it in 900 different ways)

→ Still (first I love you, the clip show makes me feel a lot and i love that they walk off holding hands bye)

Season 6

→ Valkyrie (they are engaged and also a lot of kissing and also tension I like it a lot)

→ In the Belly of the Beast (too. much.)

→ Veritas (KB finally gets to take Bracken down and I’ve never been so pleased for someone who doesn’t exist)

Season 7

→ The Time of Our Lives (they get married and also Kate in a pencil skirt)

→ Resurrection | Reckoning (so intense bye. Please captain she’s my wife DID I ASK)

→ Hollander’s Woods (such a fab ep and I will always adore her speech)

Season 8

→ The Last Seduction (mostly for the reunion scene tbh no ragrets)

→ The Blame Game (so super good and Kate made a bomb what more do you need)

→ Death Wish (i loved it and the Ryans and so much kissing and I loved it)

Castle Finale

You know what?! I know it kinda felt like the last scene happened a bit fast compared to the previous one but I LOVED it. When they were on the floor bleeding out I felt so anxious, so worried, so upset that this would be it, that it would end in tragedy and I would lose them. And even in that moment I have to aknowledge it would be epic how they were holding hands bleeding out together but this wouldn’t be the ending Caskett deserved. That last scene, with their children being happy always, that is Caskett, beating the odds because that’s what epic love stories like theirs do. I loved the ending with the voice-overs and I’m very happy they have actually shot that extra scene in case it got cancelled. This show means so much to me and I will terribly miss it but given how badly abc fucked up with stana I’m so glad it was cancelled. That way caskett & us the fans got the happy ending they/we deserved!

How would you write the ending to castle?

That’s a really tough question, Anon. I feel like this is probably a disjointed answer, but I’m still working on my coffee, so we’ll see if it can work magic. 

In terms of how I would write the ending to the show, I would probably have it as the final Loksat take down. I picture that being a big thing, a media circus, and a lengthy, hard-fought battle - even worse in some ways than Bracken because of everything that had happened since Loksat’s name came up - and when the dust starts to settle, everything feels a little bit foreign even though nothing really has changed. I would have a moment, possibly the next morning, where Castle and Beckett talk about what happened, and where they go from there. I’d have that conclude with a firm decision about having kids (a yes, for the record), and then I would have them either go back to bed - gotta start practicing, after all - or have it be just another day where they get ready and go to work, but this time they’re a lighter, freer, and a little bit giddy.

There would need to be more meat in there, obviously, but I think that would be the general idea - take the big bad down together, decide something for the future together, show them living their lives together.

Your friendly neighborhood asker of random questions strikes again: what do you think is the most important scene of each season of Castle (not episode, scene)? I know "important" is very open-ended but that's why I like it. Your answers to my random questions on the past have always shown a unique perspective!

I’m so sorry it’s taken me so long to get round to doing this, but I wanted to give it my full attention. I didn’t do season 8 bc I can’t make a proper judgement yet. Under a cut, because I got chatty.

Season One → For me, and this might be a little obvious, the most important scene in season one is when Kate tells him what happened to her mother. It’s something so intensely personal, and it takes a huge amount of courage on her part to share that with Castle. And then he makes her smile and I think that’s the first time somebody has ever done that after she’s told them, and he realises just how strong and extraordinary this woman truly is. I think it’s the first time she really starts to trust him, and the first time he starts to fall hard.

Season Two → In season two I feel like the most important scene comes in Wrapped Up in Death, when Castle asks Kate to look out for Alexis if anything happens to him. We know how intensely protective of his daughter he is - it even contributed to the breakdown of his second marriage - so the fact that he trusts Beckett with her is HUGE. And Kate knows it and that little smile, because she’s so honoured and pleased. Also, season two is so comedic throughout, especially this episode, and this serious moment is just so lovely.

Season Three → There are just so many this season oh my goodness. The first thing that springs to mind for me though is the scene in Knockdown. I think I’m sort of accidentally going with a theme of trust. But when Kate says that Castle is somebody she trusts, and he looks absolutely floored by that because he’s already been in love with her for a while and it kind of solidifies that she might feel the same. And also the fact that tackling this case without him doesn't even cross her mind anymore shows so much growth in their partnership.

Season Four → OKAY REALLY HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PICK. There are so so many important moments this season, but I’m trying to stay clear of the immediately obvious ones. I’m choosing the end of Eye of the Beholder, where Serena Kaye says that she doesn’t steal things that belong to somebody else. I think it’s really good for Castle to get some reassurance that it’s not all in his head and other people can see it too. And also it’s confirmation of what we all already knew, that they’re basically together without the kissing part for this entire season.

Season Five → This season is just so full of important moments. One that sticks out for me is in Probable Cause when Beckett tells him that she never stopped believing in him. With the mounting evidence against him it would have been really easy for her to have doubts, and it makes me so proud of her to see her unwavering faith in him. And he’s so terribly relieved, because he thought he might lose her over this and instead it makes them even stronger.

Season Six → There are just so many my goodness. I think though I’m going to have to go with in Need to Know, when Castle shows her the key to the new DC apartment. I know that nothing ever comes of it, but he was willing to uproot his life and follow her because he loves and needs her so much. And she looks so overwhelmed that she's about to start crying and I feel such a kinship with that.

Season Seven → I’m not sure I can pick a specific moment here, but I will do my best. I LOVE Hong Kong Hustle because Kate is having something of a crisis of confidence, feeling like she’s hit a roadblock. The whole episode, Castle is just in firm, unwavering support of her. He thinks she’s amazing and he lets her know it and it gets me right in the heart. Especially in the beginning when he says she's the best detective in the city he is just so proud of his wife I can’t go on.

I have seen a few of the "first there's the moment you think etc" gifsets for Castle and wondered about your take on those moments for both KB and castle and why. 1) the moment you think you think it; 2) the moment you think you know it; 3) the moment you know it, but can't yet say it; and 4) the moment where you know it and can't keep it in any longer. Thanks for always answering my asks! You are great :)

I am so sorry about how long this has taken me to respond to. I’ll try to do better. I’m assuming that by ‘it’ we’re talking about knowing that they love the other? That’s what I went with anyway.

For Kate:

the moment you think you think it: A DEADLY GAME (2.24). OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY. She is so tentative but there’s a streak of real courage and that look she gives him in the break room and then when she just can’t quite get the words out fast enough, but she thinks that someday she might really be able to love him this is fine i am fine.

the moment you think you know it: I think this is in A Deadly Affair (3.01). She’s obviously still really hurt about the summer, but she wants him badly enough to get over being hurt, and the whole thing about letting him win the bet so that he can come back just absolutely kills me. I think at this point she’s pretty sure that there’s really something there, but she’s too afraid to jump in and see what it might be.

the moment you know it, but can’t yet say it: I’m going to go with Knockdown (3.13), here. A combination of things in that episode really. The fact that her knee-jerk reaction is to go to him, because she knows that she needs him to get through this case. The fact that he’s somebody she trusts, with the truth and with her life and her heart too. And then when he punches Lockwood for her, I think she realises how far he is willing to go for her and it makes her certain.

the moment where you know it and can’t keep it in any longer: For me, I think that moment comes in Countdown (3.17). I know there’s some debate, but I firmly believe that she tries to say ‘I need you to know how much I love you.’ Kate thinks that she’s going to die there, and the thought of dying before he knows how she feels is unbearable, so she says it. Because she doesn’t think there will be any consequences, granted, but she does.

For Rick:

the moment you think you think it: I know many people will think I’m being ridiculous, but I firmly believe this happened in A Chill Goes Through Her Veins (1.05). When she tells him the story about her mother’s murder, I think something in him shifts from ‘this grumpy hedgehog is really attractive and annoying her is fun and she’s hot when she’s cross’ to something more like ‘she is an amazingly strong and brave person who I wish to know everything about.’ I really think he’s essentially smitten with her from that moment.

the moment you think you know it: BOOM. That sounds dramatic and like I am yelling a loud noise and tbh I kind of am. I don’t necessarily mean the actual explosion though, although that’s obviously a lot. It’s when he insists on her staying with him, because I think he realises that he will go absolutely insane if he doesn’t have her close by so that he can be sure she’s safe. Because he loves her.

the moment you know it, but can’t yet say it: It’s gotta be that look in Poof! You’re Dead (3.12). I think I talked about this before because I’m absolutely obsessed with this moment. It’s like he realises that an ordinary day at the precinct is more magical than his best moments with Gina and it hits him that he’s met the person he’s supposed to be with. To quote Jim Halpert, he realises that he’s waiting for his wife.

the moment where you know it and can’t keep it in any longer: TBH I THINK WE ALL KNOW.
