random, but do you think rachel giving up paris for ross is anti-feminist?
Hmmm, no. Not to be one of those preachy gals, but feminism is about letting women live freely. It's about letting them make their own choices and choose their own paths. Feminism is about just... letting any and all women simply exist in the same way we allow men to. No hoops to jump through, no stipulations, no societal expectations.
Like, this idea that there can only be a certain kind of woman, the perfect woman that represents all women. That any woman that wore sweatpants, or swore a lot, or drank too much, or wore too much or not enough makeup, or chose love over a career, that is bad for feminism!!!
If Rachel wants to stay with Ross, that's her choice. Telling her she HAS to go to Paris or else she's a bad feminist is very contradictory. I know people like to make jokes because people REALLY don't like Ross, but Rachel made a decision for herself, her child, and her family. It's one thing if Rachel didn't love Ross, and she was just staying because she felt badly (because that would cause a lot of issues for Emma, in the long run.) But even if she DID decide to stay for the wrong reasons, it's still her choice!
The disdain that people now have over Ross and Rachel is so puzzling to me. A lot of it stems from people's hatred of Ross. But this notion that they were so toxic and a terrible example of love and relationships is just so weird? What did Ross do that was so wrong, exactly? He was jealous? You mean, like all the other relationships we see on TV that people love to glamorize and worship? Like the relationships we have in our own lives? People on this site would sooner condemn a harmless sitcom couple where the dude is jealous than condemn a ship that's literally abusive. It's wild!
tldr; No, I don’t think it’s anti feminist. I doubt the audience thought it was when it aired, either.

Every Friends Dynamic Ranked (as voted by my followers): #14 → Ross & Rachel For the last time, why aren’t you two together again? No, I know. Because you’re not in that place. Which would be fine, except you totally are. It’s complicated, okay? Yeah, that’s true. Yeah, you love her, you always have. You have a child together. There’s no right answer. Look, we’ve been together. Okay, and then apart. And then together, and then apart. And now we have a baby. It’s just, if we got together again and it didn’t work out? I could never do that to Emma. It’s just, Rachel and I, we’re doing really well now. I know, I know, I know. If you try to make it more, you might wreck it. Yeah, exactly. Right. Or you might get everything you’ve wanted since you were 15.

I have lived through a fucking world war. I have lost a child. I lost two husbands. I’ve been starved with an army, and I’ve been beaten, and I’ve been betrayed, and I’ve been imprisoned, and I did not– I survived. And this. I am supposed to be shattered by this? Well, I won’t be. I won’t.
