Almost as soon as we got into #CastleHedingham we came across the thatchers at work. Fascinating to see the sheafs of corn being put on the roof, and incredible to think that just corn stems can keep a house dry for 40 years.

The night train Eric Ravilious Painted in 1935 whilst Ravilious was living at Castle Hedingham this perspective is from the village. As the train passes in a blaze of light and steam the driver is clearly visible, but where are the passengers? Ravilious loved trains, and who doesn't, but this passengerless train is rather eerie too and must have seemed so from the candle-lit cottages of the village. #ericravilious #train #castlehedingham
