While thinking of what I want to act as a “antagonist” of my little bean world I started thinking of castor beans. They aren’t really a bean but rather a toxic seed that kinda looks like a bean, that we use to make near non-toxic castor oil.

…and I think they kinda look like little baby boars so I couldn’t not have them included.

castor beans must be picked slightly early as the pods quite literally explode & burst the seed out at high speed as a means of seed dispersal. it sounds like a mini firecracker 💥

Hero Form Appearance: A combination of a Japanese Vampire's rich threads and YuYuYu’s Hero Form Outfits. The undersuit of the outfit is a misleading white, acting as a canvas. And while the main outfit starts out as a crimson red, it becomes a shadowy jet black starting at the lower half of the sleeves, the lower half of the pants, and the tailcoat. Accent colors are coral, scarlet, gray, silver, gold, and white. The shoes, gloves, headband, and belt all have patterns of castor bean flowers on them, and the only other accessory is a brooch on his left breast that resembles the flower. The flower’s petal shape can be seen in the tailcoat and collar.

This is the weirdest flower I've ever seen. Does anyone know what it is?

A friend told me this morning that this is a castor bean plant and that it's extremely poisonous. Glad I didn't touch it!

#3370 - Ricinus communis - Castor Oil Plant

Named after the Latin for tick, owing to the appearance of the seeds. The common name "castor bean" probably comes from its use as a replacement for castoreum, a perfume base derived from the dried perineal glands of the beaver (castor in Latin). It's not a bean. Another common name, palm of Christ, derives from castor oil's reputed ability to heal wounds and cure ailments. But see below.

A spurge native to the SE Mediterranean Basin, Eastern Africa, and India, but now a widespread weed in tropical and subtropical areas worldwide, usually in disturbed areas.

Quite variable in size and colour, sometimes reaching 12m in height, and sometimes reddish-purple or bronze in colour. Some of that variation is due to selective breeding. Some cultivars are grown as ornamentals, but others are used for oil production. The oil has supposed medical applications, but the seeds are so poisonous that three or four are sufficient to kill an adult human. All parts of the plant are highly allergenic.

The seeds are formed with a fatty growth on one end, so they will be collected by ants, dragged to their nests, and dumped in the fertile soil of the ant's garbage heap after they're eaten the bait.

The poison in castor seeds is a protein called ricin (RYE-sin), which is one of the deadliest natural poisons. It is 6,000 times more poisonous than cyanide and 12,000 times more poisonous than rattlesnake venom. One millionth of an ounce (0.035 milligram, or 4 seeds) can kill an adult male.

It sure makes a beautiful (leafy) plant. Just dont eat it or let your animals chew on it.
