Casually Mahou
In a streaming community server that I’m in, we have a weekly drawing challenge to “draw yourself as a magical girl or boy, extra points if you Gender Bendeyourself.” The result? “Casually Mahou”
I drew Casually Gaming Jamie as a self-portrait of myself. The Power Rangers shirts were something I acquired earlier in the summer where I started wearing them for streaming and workouts (though with no webcam there is no proof of this). So the thought was how do I turn MMPR to a magical girl?
The Super Sentai show Ninninger actually did this a few years ago when the animators of Precure animated the two female members in their magical girl outfits, modified from their actual Ranger suits. I took cues from that and, since I’m a very simple and repetitive designer, I gave Casually Mahou what she looks like now.
My coloring style is actually similar to the head animators of Yugioh (hiroki, ebina, and gilbo nil I think the name was). Darker lines as a place holder of where the shading begins, and scribbled lines as the actual shading. Tbh I don’t like my colored pencils, but I hope the pencils I bought from @mellimoe get here soon so I can break them in.
You probably can’t tell but her hair does fade into brown before it becomes pink. You might be thinking ew why? Because one, I think the pink tips are cute, and two, I actually have brown tips from when I attempted to bleach my hair a year ago. Didn’t turn out well by still wanted to give her that look.
What I get for being a bit overzealous...
