There was supposed to be more to this, but I never got around to finishing the rest. Though, I also like it just as is for now. These were interesting to do and I liked the concept I had going, I just fell off with the last three that probably would have made it made more sense. I dunno, that's for future me to figure out.

Long post about how this specie breeds and do stuff under the cut! I need help thinking of a name for them, HELP!

so these monsters kinda work in a... pack kinda hivemind sort of way. They’re also shape shifters, often making temporary and permanent changes to themselves.

So a fully grown female will lay a single egg in a nest and then other non-related females, up to four at the least, six at the most, will also lay eggs in the same nest. The eggs are all coated with this gooey sticky substance which will cause the eggs to stick to one another and surround vegetation into this big clump. The mother then leaves and have nothing to do with the babies.

See this species of creature cannot stand other members of its species unless it’s A) their one permanent mate and B) their DNA matches ridiculously close, I mean at identical twin levels of match.  

But Dusty, you say, aren’t the babies not related at all? Why aren’t the babies just hatched alone? Won’t the babies attack each other, what’s the point of this daycare situation???

Shut up and let me explain. 

The main reason unrelated eggs are placed with one another is all about species survival. Before the babies reach a year old the instinct that causes them to literally try and murder each other is completely dormant. So until then these babies live in harmony, keeping each other warm, pack hunting and playing.  

The babies hatch all the same sex, female, eventually the strongest and dominant one will get to stay female while all the other become male. This change becomes evident when the Dom female begins sprouting wings. She will also lead this pack, her future mate being barely a second in command of sorts. The pack will always follow her lead. The lone female is called a Queen. 

It’s after this time do the female pick which one of the males will become her future mate. The choice has to be made in the 1st year time frame or else she just tries and kills any other potential partner. Doing it as a baby make her use to his scent and general being, causing the kill switch to stay permanently off when it comes to him. How the mate is pick isn’t really clear, the males don’t seem to fight amongst themselves or do any sort of displays.... A mystery I still need to figure out. ANYWAY. The mate is usually chosen close to the 1st year mark. 

So what about the other males? Do they just leave? Nope. The males, being shape-shifters, change their DNA so they match 99% to the dominate female, becoming her identical, genetically related brothers! These brothers now become utterly platonic and loyal to their “Queen” sister. She commands and leads them along with her mate. So the siblings and single Mate will live with one another for their entire lives, protecting, hunting and causing mischief with one another. If they lose their siblings or mate, they will live utterly isolated lives. 

So yeah that’s what I’ve thought of so far, any question would be cool?
