one thing i have studied while pet sitting over the past two weeks is that CATS. HAVE. ENERGY.
It does not matter how old they are, they deserve enrichment! The oldest cat here is 14 and he loves to carry around toys and yowl. He'll also wrestle with the second oldest cat and play with string toys!
Two of the other three will bat at me if they're just laying around. Their ears are perked, eyes wide open, and tail twitching. They are comfortable, they just want to play. When they swat, that's a sign to go get a toy and entertain them. Better than that, go out of your way to entertain them!
Give your cats little balls, strings on sticks, toy mice, etc. Give them space to climb and things to observe.
