Solid and Stranded Cables
Solid V/S Stranded Conductor Cable
As we know that Network Cables are available in different categories like Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and Cat7.these Category cables are again classified into two types according to their conductor; Solid and Stranded.
These type of cables contain Solid conductor and usually used in permanent installations. Solid Cables are ideal for PoE installation, HD applications and where a long-run cable is required for backbone. It shows better resistance against electrical interference. these cables have a minimum bend radius to perform better. It is a better choice for business installations whether used inside office walls or under floor wiring.
Stranded Conductor Cable:
These types of cables contain multiple strands twisted together to form a conductor. Ideally, it is used in places where installers don’t want to take any risk against cracking or breaking issue. Having more flexibility than solid cable, it is often used for portable device/applications. Not suitable for long distance wiring projects that’s why installers preferred it for home wiring. Other than domestic installations typically it is used for patch cord or patch cables to connect different workstations together.
