injured reveal in the office? if you’d be comfy with it??? BUT ALSO THATS SUCH AN AMAZING IDEA AND HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR ANGSTTT
this is what i like to call a “one of the many ways kara could have revealed herself but they fucking blew it” minific:
She lands heavy on the balcony, kneeling hard when one leg buckles under her momentum. The wound at her temple pulses with an unfamiliar pain that she barely registers. Flight has caused blood to streak sideways across her face: her eyes burn and her vision blurs as she comes to a violent stop, very nearly crashing through the paneled glass of Lena’s office. Lena jumps at the sound of Supergirl’s boots fracturing the stone of her balcony. She spins on the spot, glass of water slipping from her hand, and hears her name.
“Lena,” the hero gasps, and her voice is fraught with the tension of tears only barely held back. “You--” she cuts herself short with the effort it takes to pull herself to her feet.
Lena’s eyes widen at the sight before her. “Supergirl. Oh my God.” Her legs propel her forward and onto the balcony before she even registers her own movement. Her hands reach toward Supergirl as she moves, like she wants to-- she doesn’t know what. Wipe Supergirl’s blood away? Tend to her wounds? What can Lena’s two hands do for a near-invincible woman? She self-consciously drops them to her sides and then her thoughts jumble and take off racing, because she looks at Supergirl-- really looks at her-- and she’s hurt. “You’re bleeding,” Lena exhales.
“There was-- I’m so sorry for coming here, I just had to know that you--” Supergirl is babbling now, panic in her voice as she pushes a hand through her hair and darts her eyes frantically about like she’s scanning the office for incoming threats. She stops, then starts again, another apology slipping from her lips, when Lena interrupts her.
“Hey,” Lena says gently. Supergirl doesn’t meet her eyes, doesn’t move, and Lena takes a necessary gamble. She steps forward, closes the distance between them, and settles her palm gently against Supergirl’s trembling wrist. “Hey, don’t apologize. What happened?”
Supergirl closes her eyes at the touch, and then squeezes them tightly as she tries to get her erratic breathing under control. Lena’s heart beats hard as she waits for a response, and jumps into her throat when the blonde begins to speak in a voice so small and defeated that Lena barely recognizes it.
“An alien that was--- it could-- he knew my nightmares, my worst fears, and you were-” she stops herself, and takes a deep breath in before continuing in a more level voice. “You were.... I couldn’t save you,” the words tumble from the Kryptonian’s lips like a confession she’s been trying to deny for a lifetime. “They had you, and I couldn’t get there in time, and I couldn’t save you.” Her eyes open, and she looks hazily toward Lena for the first time since she came hurtling down to the balcony. The implications of this, of Lena’s peril being Supergirl’s worst nightmare, is beyond what the brunette is prepared to consider right now. She brushes past it and aims for comfort instead.
“It wasn’t real,” Lena says, pressing her fingers firmly against the hot skin of the hero’s arm. “I’ve been here all day. Nothing happened to me.” The blonde doesn’t look convinced, and her hands still shake beneath Lena’s touch. Lena’s heart aches with each beat. “Supergirl, look at me.”
“You don’t understand, Lena, I promised you I would always protect you, and I---” she freezes. A beat of silence hangs heavy as Supergirl’s eyes dart up to meet Lena’s and she realizes what she’s just said.
“Kara,” Lena breathes, and she’s awestruck.
