Catch 122 | Solid brunch yet again
After Beck's choice of Catch 122 for my birthday, my friend also suggested we eat here to celebrate/catch up! Please see that post for interior and other food items! We actually went for an early meal so we both opted for more breakfast food. She picked Croque Madame “open-face” ($12). Croque-Monsieur is a French grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Croque Madame is a spin off from that with a fried or poached egg on top of that sandwich. The one done by Catch 122 is of poached egg, house-smoked ham, gruyère cheese, cherry tomatoes, béchamel sauce with yukon nugget potato hash on the side. Can't go wrong with gruyère cheese and ham. As mentioned in previous post, Catch 122 cures and smokes their meat in house. I enjoyed the ham! It is smokey with tons of savory flavor yet. Moist too. There was so much ham you could hardly see the poached egg underneath it! It is short from being the perfect sandwich because of the bread. To hold up all the heavy weight ingredients, I understand the bread needed to be a bit on the sturdier side but it was very chewy and hard to cut through. I think that's a slight disappointment. It looks great with the presentation as an open face sandwich but I think the portion could be a bit bigger or at least with another piece of bread. I went with the Truffle-scented Mushroom Omelette ($12). The omelette is made with green as grass farm 3-egg omelette, seasonal wild and cultivated mushrooms, goat cheese, yukon nugget potato hash. I dislike goat cheese and asked not to have any of it in my omelette. The omelette was great! 3 eggs with mushroom make a pretty big omelette. The truffle scent and mushroom are always a good combination. The two made a very strong presence in the omelette. It was like "BAM! I, mushroom, am here". In terms of filling, the omelette won. Again, food was solid and the service as like last mine, very minimal even on a slow weekday.
