is the "it appeared to be caught" when the pokeball only shakes like twice a mistranslation, or is it actually possible to capture supposedly other people's pokemon if I throw enough balls at it

:D Here I was trying to catch Ho-Oh in Omega Ruby (for about the tenth time -_-) and I was using a ninetails with flash fire so it wouldn't take any damage. So instead of lowering Ho-Ohs HP I decided to just let its moves run out of pp so it'll have no choice but to use struggle, but here's the fucking amazing part. Second turn I used a great ball and I caught that fucker on the second try full HP and everything. The Gods have smiled upon me today.

I tried calculating the catch rate for this Omanyte, since I was sick of it popping out of the ball and wanted to know how unlikely it was that I would catch it. I went along pretty well, and even finished an entire formula, but after I did that I had no idea what the 86 even meant and I tried to figure out everything else but I just got so lost that I gave up.

Instead I will just keep throwing balls and hope one works.
