Here, officially, is my hard cover, completely hand-bound copy of Catch 22!!!!!!!!

The illustrations on the inside cover are of yoss+friends (first page, closeness to yoss representing narrative importance), and cath+other villains (closeness to cath representing their influence on each other).

All of this is completely hand bound, manually illustrated, etc. I also had to completely rework the pdf so it fit--to that end, if you want my pdf, here it is. It definitely doesn't contain additional material. Some progress photos under the cut:

The editing-the-pdf took me about 12 hours. One overuse injury later, I was ready to print! I got them done at a local print shoppe, folded all the pages, trimmed them (all of this sounds paltry but it took the better part of a day and a second overuse injury). Then came designing the inside flaps, ironing the fabric and then fabricbinding it to the chipboard exterior, sewing all the pages together, designing the title page, and finally!!! FINALLY!!! My idea has been realized!!! Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I guess the thing that's so insane to me about the chaplain/korn interactions is the use of language. A lot of this language is the same kind of stuff you'd see in a traditionally intimate or romantic scene--'managed to reply', 'eyes glinted keenly with a private and satisfying mischief', 'enchanted with his own intuition. He laughed' like. From a writing standpoint, it's this juxtaposition of a highly psychologically manipulative interaction with language usually used in an intimate context. But from a reader standpoint it just winds up seeming like korn is bullying the chaplain and both of them are enjoying at least some part of that. Which is honestly very exhausting.

Milo Minderbinder, capitalism incarnate, is so good because even interpersonal interactions have to be justified monetarily to him. What I mean by this is in any of the Milo chapters, Yossarian would have had an infinitely better chance convincing Milo to do stuff for him if he phrased it in terms of profit for milo. i'll elaborate in a sec hold on

Mcwatt is so cute here but more importantly: game nights (and theater-enjoyer mcwatt) are canon confirmed! Also they're inviting hungry joe??? Why would they do this!

Not to talk more about the clevinger mcwatt tent but i think they would be capable of hosting the worst/best game nights in there. Yossarian is def their mutual friend and gets invited. They both have crushes on him anyway. Maybe Nately? But I think other than that, each of them would invite someone who would get on the other's nerves for some reason. They could invite Milo and play monopoly, which would quickly go from "haha he's so good at this game isn't that funny" to "i think we need to burn the tent down with him inside unless he lets us buy back the railroads"
