And final post for Cate tonight --

No One Lives Forever is a very niche old game that takes place around the Cold War. I am aware that will make it basically impossible for Cate to interact with most Muses. Plus I'm not super well-versed in that timeline either, and the game is so silly sometimes (i.e put this corpse disintegrating powder on dead tissue and you won't have to hide the bodies! perfume bottles full of knockout gas! villains that basically walk straight out of Austin Powers/James Bond parodies!) that it clearly isn't based in reality on top of that.

So in most cases, Cate will be a modern-day undercover agent for UNITY. How fortunate it is that the sexism she frequently experiences is common even in present day. :| And since I don't expect anyone else to interact in her canon verse, we can just gloss over her past missions and their successes. Maybe even keep her as a low-level agent still fighting to get respect in her organization, too. And of course, I'll have a verse for when she's working as a thief/never recruited to UNITY, too.

I am also toying with the idea of giving her a HP Marauders Era verse because she was canonically alive in the 60s, but that's TBD. I'll elaborate more on her later; I just needed to get this out before I go to bed.

Cate is the first female operative at UNITY, and therefore has to put up with the constant barrage of sexism from her higher ups (at least before she proves her worth) and fellow agents. This, plus the chip on her shoulder she gained after an unfortunate childhood, makes her over-eager to prove herself and frustrated by various glass ceilings. She can be quite stubborn when it comes to taking on her share of work and can get quite mouthy if someone disrespects her.

Despite this, she has very good control of her emotions and temper; the only times she was emotionally compromised was when she lost fellow agents in the field and/or blamed herself for the deaths of innocent civillians. However, she has since steeled herself and come to understand that she cannot save everyone. She will damn well near try, though!

Having been forced into archive working and eavesdropping for the first few years at UNITY, Cate took to studying all of the files that were available to her. She also has a tendency to heavily research any subjects that interest her, (i.e the story of similar-fated Felicity Farnsworth) which means she is very well-read and a generally quick study. This was necessary in her prior career as a thief as well.

Cate has admitted that, outside of survival, her motivation to become a thief included a frustration at the circumstances the world thrust upon her. However, she has since learned not to "take her misery personally, which is why she accepted the chance to use her skills for good and protect the world from those who would harm the innocent.

Other Facts

Despite being the daughter of British aristocrats, Archer never flaunts her noble heritage or shows any affinity with the upper class or luxury. This is probably due to her rough youth in the slums of London, where she had to fend for herself in order to survive.

Although Cate was born in Glasgow to Scottish parents, her accent is a variant of Received Pronunciation (also known as "The Queen's English" or "Oxford English"), usually associated with the British upper class (Archer's parents were members of the aristocracy). Her accent was primarily learned, as she had to be able to fit in and fool people to survive, and it has just been easier to work with Unity using it. Linguistic references to her Scottish heritage include her use of the word "aye" for yes and "shite" when frustrated.
