some various headcanons for Roathe's Conscripts under the cut because I love the little bastards
Roathe has a separate "pocket dimension" he moves the Conscripts in and out of when they're needed. While inside they're only vaguely aware of Roathe's surroundings, and often use it for rest. They come when called, but they can also summon themselves if so inclined.
All of the Conscripts are divisions of Roathe, but fully realized people as well. They share aspects of his personality and personify them in parts, but they've got their own motivations and wants. Roathe happens to be a great provider, so all of them stick with him. Being bound to each other probably helps.
Gulphagor is Roathe's Hunger. In the "the Conscripts are parts of Roathe" he would be Roathe's wings and mouth. The man himself is constantly looking for something to devour, and can and will eat anything. Roathe yells at him to at least keep it to consumable food but a lot of the Cathedrale's candlesticks have disappeared into Gulphagor's maw and never come back out. While he's a black hole for food, in times of need? If Roathe is hungry, Gulphagor doesn't eat until he does. (I have a mini excerpt I need to write about this...) When Gulphagor likes people he likes to latch to their face. Or when he dislikes them. Or when he's hungry. Really he likes latching to people's faces and what he does from there depends on if he actually likes you! If he has someone he likes he rubs their face on them—he's got scent glands on the sides of his head like a cat and uses it to claim things he isn't otherwise eating. If he dislikes you, well. He has a tongue with retractable teeth on it.
Catenach is Roathe's Authority. He's Roathe's tail! (Look at his Gemini skin and tell me the base of the tail area doesn't look like looking at Catenach.) Catenach brings all of Roathe's Big Cat energy in one convenient Conscript whose idea of fun is annoying someone to get their attention. When he's not lounging on top of Roathe the second he needs to get out of his chair to go somewhere, he's chaining objects that people need down and refusing to let them go until he's given attention. When Catenach is feeling lazy he's very laid back, but when it's time to go he's extremely energetic. Also embodies some of Roathe's needs for attention (positive or negative) hence him becoming more and more annoying before the Drifter is met.
Vythelas is Roathe's Intellect. He would be Roathe's arms and general mind. Probably the most obviously intelligent of the Conscripts, Vythelas is the one organizing the other two and scheming with or against Roathe at any given time. He has knowledge of how to manipulate the Void for his purposes, which he will always claim is "knowledge of the Inferno" granting him the ability to scribe runes with different effects. Makes up for his lack of physical ability by Refusing To Stop Talking, Ever. Certified yapper and lecturer. If you listen to him he's actually got some pretty keen knowledge to share but it's wrapped up in how nobody ever listens to him and everyone's afraid to entertain little hypotheticals like "what if your mom went crazy and made your siblings attack you." Honestly! He thinks people need thicker skin, but he also hangs with Roathe on a daily basis so it's up to you if you trust his opinion on anything.
Of note, all of them understand speech, but only Vythelas speaks English/whatever the hell everyone in the Sol System is using for a common language. Catenach and Gulphagor can only speak back in Voidtongue. Vythelas speaks properly, Catenach is eloquent when he does speak, and Gulphagor yells short sentences and words to get his point across better.
Oh and all of them purr. Of course. Catenach sounds the most like an actual big cat, Gulphagor sounds like a raven imitating it, and Vythelas sounds like a different creature entirely learned how to purr.
Ever since I learned about Roathe being called a sad wet cat man, and the growling, and fics where he purrs, and the tail being a mood indicator, I'm now fixated on imagining just how much like a cat he, but mainly his conscripts are.
Do any of them chuff? Or make that moaning sound? Are any of the conscripts affected by catnip? Do they like boxes? Would they chase after laser pointers? How do they feel about water?
I think if they met, Kalymos wouldn't really care about Roathe's/Uriel's Concripts, but this is one area where I think instead of being like cats, the Conscripts would be like ravens, and they'd annoy Kalymos for the fun of it.
recently needed a transparent png of Gulphagor for obvious reasons and my friends were kind enough to get me the rest of the Conscripts, too!
Feel free to use these anywhere you'd like.
