There either never was a skinwalker, or they don't exist outside of the hell-realm the trinity inhabit. Instead, The Skinwalker is a manifestation of Naarah's guilt-induced trauma over sacrificing the dog for Elon. This idea may be corroborated by the original Navajo concept of the skinwalker, magic-users who abuse their powers to their own evil ends, perverting magic from its intended uses (e.g. healing the sick and injured); this idea poses Elon and Naarah themselves as "skinwalkers", abusing their witchcraft and commiting atrocities, which is why it often shows up as her, Elon, and the dog.
Theory 2: The Skinwalker was/is real
At the time of the dog's sacrifice, Elon may have already been burned at the stake. The skinwalker chose to, yknow, walk in Elon's skin, and take advantage of Naarah while she was in a state of ignorance, shock, or denial of Elon's death. This gave The Skinwalker enough sway with Naarah in order to sacrifice the dog for... whatever reason. This idea is corroborated by the modern misinterpretation of the skinwalker, a monster that assumes the form of the deceased in order to manipulate or kill their prey.
Theory 3: Naarah created The Skinwalker
This is the most left-field theory, and the one I have the least faith in. Elon needed to sacrifice the dog, and either via accident or intent transformed it into a modern skinwalker. This would serve to explain why it chooses to manifest itself as the dog, but explains little else.

Here's a poorly thought out theory I came up with about Naarah's death.
There's a lot of speculation on wither or not Naarrah killed herself or was infact murder, my belief is that it was both.
This sounds dumb, but here me out. It is pretty much agreed that Elon was a witch that tired to get Naarrah to join her covenant. Wither she joined or not is debated, but for my theory, she did and became quite powerful.
But since this was the 1600s, my girls were in danger. I personally believe the Gideon was an actual Judge, that prevented the girls from being tried. But for some reason he left, leaving the girls to fend for themselves against of a bunch of crazy, paranoid assholes. And is maybe why they are kinda hostile to Gideon.
Elon was killed first and burned at the stake. Afterwards they went after Naarrah. They weren't positive she was a witch like Elon, (either because shes was kinda young or had a good rep before she hanged with Elon) so they put her thought a test where they would dunk the "witch" in some deep body of water for a period of time, if they lived, they were a witch because they used there power to get free, if they died, they weren't a witch. Woopse!
So you might be thinking, well if she died, that wouldn't make her a witch and it would be just murder. Not necessarily. If you watch the collab between Tony Crynight and the Creators of Cat ghost, after every thing goes terribly wrong, Naarrah states at the 3:05 mark "go ahead and drop me, theres nothing else left for me." and then we here something dunked in water.
Now, if Naarrah did join Elon's covenant, she would be a pretty power witch, since they were pretty close. Powerful enough, to where she probably could have easily gotten free from her chair and lived. But she didn't. She choose to let herself die, because her friends were gone and her town thought she was evil. Making her death a technical suicide.
So how is it murder too? The ones who killed Naarah and Elon (probably the council) weren't wrong, they were witches, and Naarrah let herself die! Well here's they thing, even though they were right in that they were witches, they were wrong to think that they were evil. My theory is that both girls were actually using there powers to protect the town from evil (probably the Skinwalker), as seen in one of the games called circle, were you play as what are the human versions of Elon and Narraah (Elon being the red haired girl and Naarah being the blue haired girl) and run around trying to protect five buildings, the middle one being the most important sine if its touched its a game over, from ghost whom are trying to get them. Also your goal is to get five candles for each point of the star on a red pentagram. Which unlocks the bad ending.
Pentagrams are often portrayed to be evil and satanic, but is actually far from the truth. In the wiccan religion, its actually a protection symbol, and would count as white magic (I could totally be wrong about this though since Im not a wiccan) And Im more then 100% sure the creators are aware of this, they literally take the time to write things in wicca language, Im sure they know this.
It would make sense that they would make a protection symbol like the pentagram to keep the evil sprits out. Probably so they would have to keep trying to fight the spirits by themselves. Anyway, if they were good witches, them being punished would wrongfully done, making it a lynching, which is pretty much a bunch of people gleefully murdering someone else they THINK deserve it. And in this case, really didn't.
Anyway here's a probably a pointless theory that either isn't right or someone else figured out but did it better. Feel free to add on to this or ask me questions/why I think this way. Thanks for reading!
Edit: So Im a fucking idiot and didn't watch void 1and 2, nor did I get the bad end in unholy circle. So the purple haired girl you can play as in the unholy circle was not Naarah but Malone, Elon's mentor. Though I believe my theory still stands (since they are still protecting the area and if Malone was Elon mentor, Naarrah would still be learning the same thing) , I just wanted to clear things up.
So, I’ve been watching Cat Ghost, a web series on Youtube, and I’ve decided to post some thoughts and theories on the whole thing since it’s chocked to the gills with easter eggs and hidden lore.
I’ll be putting everything under a readmore so as to not clog anybody’s dashes.
First of all, I’ll sum up the series for those who don’t know about it: Cat Ghost is about a snarky cat named Elon, a cheerful blue ghost named Naarah, and a lazy hedgehog named Gideon. For the most part, Elon and Naarah tease Gideon while the three of them go about their business living in a secluded cabin in the woods. With each episode, there is a game that pertains to the events in it.
Everything else here is spoilery and assumes you have some more knowledge about the material, so if you want to go watch it just look it up on Youtube.
Anyways, from what I’ve seen (and according to pretty much anyone else who’s seen the series), it appears that the main three characters are dealing with the aftermath of a witch hunt, more specifically Elon and Naarah being the spirits of two girls who were tried and punished for witchcraft, and Gideon is implied to be the spirit of one of the judges who sentenced them. The evidence is all over the place so I won’t get into detail except for the more interesting parts.
The first interesting thing is the chair that we see in the first game. At first, it looks like just an ordinary wooden chair, strung up from the trees like a really high swing, but if you know anything about corporeal punishments from the era of the Salem Witch trials, you’d find that the chair is actually a part of a cucking stool. Cucking stools were crane-like devices used in the public humiliation of misbehaving women back in the 1600s by tying a woman to a chair and then dunking her into a body of water. Similar practices were used in testing to see if someone was a witch: if she floated, she was guilty, if she sank, she was innocent. Naturally, this resulted in many deaths.
The chair is heavily linked to Naarah, not only being shown next to her skeleton in the Joke game but also having her sitting in it during the Speedpaint. It would not be a stretch to say that she died of drowning, as the blue ghoul in the Birthday game complains of being cold and unable to breathe, and Key stating that Naarah is currently submerged or immersed. The odd thing I find in this is how the chair seems to have been separated from the rest of the device as if the rope connecting the chair and crane either broke or was cut. Naarah’s words in the Speedpaint imply that she knew she was going to die, so maybe she’s the victim of a purposely bungled punishment.
Elon is heavily implied to have died by burning at the stake, though what confuses me is how she got the pyre while Naarah got the comparably lighter sentence. Do note that cucking stools were not execution devices and most deaths by them were accidental. Elon is referred to as a thief and temptress so it could be that she was the one who got Naarah into witchcraft in the first place. It’s implied that Elon had indoctrinated Naarah to have her assist in a serious crime, so it makes sense that Elon would get a much heavier sentence; by all means, Naarah was the victim in this case.
Now, why would Naarah trust Elon enough to get involved in a highly illegal activity and later follow her in death? Well, for one, Elon was 19 at her time of death, while Naarah was only 14, so Elon had seniority. Secondly, the two of them were very close friends and still are, with Naarah saying that she’d do anything for Elon and later making that cute notecard in Mirror. Some part of me thinks that Naarah has/had a crush on Elon, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
Gideon is a much tougher nut to crack. He is not shown to know anything about magic and appears to be apathetic to its presence, so he clearly is not a witch. According to Key, he is a “judge,” and from what we see in the Birthday game and the Hole episode he might have something to do with that freaky bust. My theory is that the bust is what remains of Gideon’s memories prior to his death, and possibly the rest/a portion of his soul. What Key said implies that Gideon may have had something to do with The Council, an entity that sentenced Elon and Naarah. Gideon is also shown to have ties to clones, even obtaining one that mirrors his own behavior in Hole. For some reason, the universe is destroyed when the Gideons touch, so I’ve got no explanation for that.
An interesting character that’s never made an appearance outside of the games (and Void 01) is a woman by the name of Bethany. Bethany is a woman from Gideon’s human life, most likely his wife, who seems to bear a grudge against Elon and the Council. From the text, it is implied that one of the girls that were accused and sentenced during the trials was her daughter, as she claimed that the Council took away her daughter before taking her husband. After their deaths, Beth is shown to jump off the cliff into the lake, allegedly “flying” away to parts unknown. However, it is stated that she is not dead, and evidence points to Beth turning to witchcraft in hopes of reuniting with her lost husband and child.
There are more characters to the story, including a “Robert D.” who somehow got turned into a talking banana in the episode of the same name. Due to the initials, I believe he is the same person as R. Dudley, a child who died at the age of 9, five years after the deaths of Elon and Naarah, as mentioned in the game accompanying his introductory episode. How exactly he knew Elon (considering he was only four at the time she died) and how he became a freaking banana is a mystery.
Other characters include Azule (3 years old at the time of death in the same year Elon and Naarah died; my guess is that they’re some sort of animal involved in a sacrifice), Laura (who heard things from the forest, and might have been responsible for the girls getting caught), Karen (a “brave” girl who was the eldest in her group, possibly among the girls accused of witchcraft and the first to die), Jeffory Laggart (a “fine young boy”; nothing else of note about him), Dr. Crane (authority figure who dislikes seeing children at play outside), Sarah (a child who swam in the lake and left terrified; might have seen Naarah’s body or ghost), Samuel R. (died at the age of 23 but was 15 at the time of Naarah and Elon’s deaths; could have possibly known them), Rosie Candel and her mother (the former might be mentally ill, hence why her mother isn’t taking any visitors; Mrs. Candel could also be the master of the house and Rosie her servant, as having unmarried girls work and live with married puritans was a practice), Aglasis (a demon associated with destroying enemies and teleportation; might have something to do with Elon’s demon form), and Virgo (which refers to either the Virgin Mary or one of the many figures associated with the constellation of the same name, including Ishtar, Shala, Demeter, or Erigone).
The human names are clearly from the same village as the main three, though how they connect more directly with the core story remains to be seen.
My guess is that the girls stole and sacrificed an animal to a pagan god as part of a ritual, but were caught and brought to trial for witchcraft. According to the jars in the Banana game, the people had begun to blame the girls for all sorts of things, ranging from poor harvest to even the death of a child; whether or not any of it is true remains to be seen. Elon is burnt at the stake, her ashes put in a jar, and whoever is given them is ordered to spread them so that her evil will not return (an order that is not followed). Naarah got the lighter sentence because the Council might have thought she was forced into it (and she also might be one of the Council members’ daughter), but her punisher(s) deliberately damaged the cucking stool so that she would fall into the lake and drown. Sometime later Gideon dies of unknown causes at the age of 49, allegedly due to the Council.
