Peculiar Patients

Cat quickly bolted into the clinic a bagel in one hand, and her work bag in another. Her nurse, Theresa, eyed her from her desk before pointedly looking at the clock. “You have exactly 3 minutes remaining to clock in before you’re late. The young brunette’s fingers flew over keyboard as she rapidly logged in and submitted her electronic time card. She triumphantly walked to the nurse’s station, bagel in hand before taking a bite. “Congrats,” drawled Theresa, “You beat the system once again. Let me know when you’re ready to put those skills to work today.”

She shrugged a shoulder nonchalantly as she Finished her bagel. She washed her hands and pulled her long mahogany colored curls back away from her face before loosely pinning it. Dawning her lab coat and bright emerald green eyes assessed the woman looking back at her in the mirror. “Alright Theresa, who’s our first patient for the day?”

Cat listened intently to her last appointment as the young mutant man told her about the horrible dream that had been keeping him up for days. He had pulled on his long rabbit ears as he described hearing a story about 4 monsters that lived in an abandoned building in an older part of the city. He had been dared to sneak in and stay the night by a group of friends and had thought nothing of it until he found them. He stated they were so terrifying that he had barely escaped with his life. Cat attempted to comfort him, but the boy swore that what he had experienced was real, he even provided the location of the building that he had entered. Cat provided him with a prescription for anxiety that would additionally help him sleep and referred him to counseling to help cope with possible underlying trauma and stress that might have resulted in his belief that he had been attacked by monsters.

As Cat completed her documentation and reports for the evening she couldn’t help but wonder about the credence of the story, he had not only given a location, and detailed descriptions of the monsters in question. She decided to investigate into his claim, if nothing else she might be able to provide the counselor information regarding the place the stated attack had occurred. Cat finished the last of her files and clocked out before waving and heading out the door.
