I want to support other DID systems so I thought taking free art requests drawing alters would be a good idea since it can suck not having a body of your own so here’s a reminder from me and Casey that even if the rest of the world can’t see you as you are you’re still valid and beautiful!❤️

Personal context is important here, friend.

The term little being used in kink communities was causing me issues in a chat since I mentioned my own “little” (child alter) and people were comparing it to DDLG. So no, this was a case where somebody with a system was using the term little for themselves, only to have it twisted.

Also fictive is also used by traumagenic systems, not just endogenic. I don’t personally have a fictive but I think calling them fictives or fictional introjects is basically the same thing for people? And the issue here was somebody saying they had something relating to DID without knowing about DID or personally having it.

One thing that makes me sometimes doubt myself is that I also have schizoaffective disorder, and one of our earliest splits had the appearance of a hallucination we had frequently. This hallucination is apparently a common thing for sleep paralysis (black cat sitting on your chest), but I always felt bad for it... it makes it seem like I'm claiming my DID was caused by another disorder, which I’m not. Does anyone else have a co-morbid psychotic disorder and/or an alter that was an (1/2)

I know I’ve gotten an anon before that mentioned having repeated visual hallucinations of their alter/a hallucination becoming an alter, and a couple other people have mentioned being able to see/visually hallucinating their alters. About 30% of people with DID, I believe, have auditory hallucinations of their alters speaking. 

Followers, do any of you have similar experiences?

Psychopath is NOT a valid term. It is offensive and demonizes the mentally ill. I wrote more on the ask in question, but... jeez. It's not a "valid" term, it's super gross. Sincerely, a boy who was told he was lying about being assaulted because he's a "psychopath" and was thus afraid and unable to report it to police because of stigma.

that makes more sense, thank you. i’m sorry you had to go through that, and hope you’re recovering well. i’ve always seen it as a derogatory term, but this site reclaims so many words like that (not that it’s a bad thing—i’m just not really used to it) that it gets confusing as to which ones were actually medical terminology at one point, or which ones were always derogatory, or which ones just recently became so, or which ones were never in the first place, and stuff like that. thanks for the info, though, this was really helpful as i don’t know much about aspd (and similar disorders)-specific issues and think others should probably educate themselves as well to avoid being harmful.

Do you plan on making anymore patches that are kind of small (like a scout badge)? I'm getting a service dog and I'd love to sneak one little cute thing on their vest along with all their professional gear >w<

Unless I can sell out of the ones I made, I’m not sure I will be able to make more.

On a technical note, the pixel art-style patch I made is the smallest I could make it while still keeping it looking like pixel art.. Probably the constraints of making them by machine.. i think cross-stitching or hand-sewing is the only way to go about it!

Does it make sense at all that at one point I mistook one alter for another? We have two alters (one that is dormant, I think) that split from the same-ish thing and for a while I thought that the younger one as the same as the persecutor one, despite them looking nothing alike. I assumed that his appearance changed over time, but now I'm realizing that they weren't the same person at all. Does this ever really happen?

Yeah, that can absolutely happen. Alters aren’t nearly as clear-cut and distinctive as people like to portray, and not all alters are super distinctive. Having a handful of less distinct alters doesn’t invalidate you having DID. What you’re describing can absolutely happen.

Hi! I have 2 questions but i'll separate them into 2 asks. We have an alter in our system (actually, we co-host together) and he used to be a cat. Around the time after high school ended and before college, he became a human. It wasn't like a shapeshift thing and no one (including him) noticed until he asked me to draw him and... hey, he's not a cat. I have vaguely remember hearing that animal alters can become human for some reason, but idk what reason. Do you have any info?

It could be that his appearance was that of a cat for trauma reasons (ie, if being small and sneaky would make him more comfortable), but then he was able to open up to a human form in the headspace when you were safer. Forms of alters aren’t typically set in stone and have some flexibility. So comfort/trust can help animal alters assume human forms. It could also be that he was always a human alter, but assumed a cat form for safety.
