Just let's talk about new Cats movie

Before I begin, I want to explain what Cats means to me. In base of my tastes, I liked it but not that much, even if I know that this musical is very important and objectively beautiful. The thing that I loved the most is Grizabella character and the song Memories, masterfully played by Elaine Page.

Now, let's talk about the trailer. I don't know how many of you knows the movie of Alice in Wonderland of 1999. In doubt I leave you the poster

Exatly, a disturbing Cheshaire Cat in motion picture played by Whoopi Goldberg. And now, try to imagine a trailer just with him and other cats like him. Thats what I tought while I was watching the new trailer of Cats.

Let's talk about the positive things before the negatives.

The cast is AMAZING, I'm just a little bit afraid of Taylor Swift and Jason Derulo, I hope they can manage it in this new experience.

The choreographies seem also really good...

Ok let's talk about the negative things.

It's the film itself that is wrong. The musical worked wonderfully just because there are no limits that CGI has to make realistic. There was also a lot of love and imagination in making the costumes similar to the features of a cat but at the same time the overalls of any musical singer. With the excuse of motion capture we have a "flattened" result devoid of the small things that made the character design of cats unique.

To give you an example, let's consider the Bombalurina of the musical.

Look at her costume: isn't the care taken in detail marvelous? Also just a glance is enough and it is already iconic in our mind.

Too bad, in the film Bombalurina didn't give me the same expression as before. I only see Taylor Swift with a computer-modified jumpsuit. It makes me sad that these little values that are in the care of handmade details are disappearing because of computer graphics.

I know they cost less effort, but there will be a reason if "The Fly" type films are famous today in the care of character design.

Another thing that didn't convince me, and here I am a little afraid of the controversy that could arise, is the choice of casting Jennifer Hudson. I state that I think that singing is sublime, I really think so, I simply don't see her as Grizabella. Grizabella is a cat that is getting older and with the song Memories reveals her past and how she has become what she is now. Hearing her from the trailer she has a fantastic voice, I don't doubt it, it's just that she seems too young to play Grizabella. Mind you it has nothing to do with the fact that she's black, absolutely not, I am not a racist. I'll tell you, if she had been good at singing I'd have seen Viola Davis very well, what do you think?

The fact is that I'm going to watch this movie although I'm afraid, because it's just a trailer, maybe the film will surprise me.

That was all I had to say about the trailer. I'm 17, I'm not an expert and what I said is just my opinion. If anything, tell me if you want me to continue talking about cinema, since it is my greatest passion 🥰
