Catching up on gardening with this spring’s latest project, the bean wall! First steps were marking out a 32’ by 2’ section along the top of the ridge in the backyard, rough tilling, cutting edges, then tilling deeper using the edges as a guide.

About two wheelbarrows of rock dug out to make room for T posts and then fixing cattle panels to let the beans climb. The trellis is one and a half panels tall and two panels long.

Finally planted this evening after topping up the bed with fresh sifted compost! Lima, coco, vaquero, soldier, bayo chocolate, kentucky wonder, and scarlet runner beans planted. Can’t wait for this to be covered in bean vines.

More great vertical gardening happening in tiny side yards next to north Seattle houses. And if those are melons, that says a LOT about how much the local climate has changed.

Still Not a Coffin, New Raised Beds With a New Archway to the Back Garden

The completion of the new raised beds and arch going into the back garden. Wahoo! More planting area for our garden. In this video you can see how I put up an arch made out of a cattle panel and 4 t-posts.

Unloading cattle panels for the garden (a day later than planned because the trailer needed a replacement tail light). Much easier using the sunfish trailer, since the panels are 16’ long and the sailboat is 14’. The winch and bow stop were loosened and lowered so the panels can fit over the post up front and hang off the back less than 4’ to remain legal.
