Izuku descends from the elevator half past midnight, eyes fighting past a squint while he yawns into his hand and tries to swallow down a dry throat. Compared to the soreness snatching up his sleep, he’d almost prefer dealing with another broken bone.
His plan is to brew some tea to ease the pain, but he hears the microwave humming as he approaches. Curious who else could be awake at this hour, he peeks his head in and catches sight of the back of Todoroki’s red and white bedhead as he stares intently at the microwave.
“Oh, you’re still up?” he asks casually as he fills the kettle, and Todoroki doesn’t take his eyes away.
“Yeah, I couldn’t sleep,” he answers easily, but a jarring scent finally reaches past Izuku’s semi-stuffed nose. “And I wanted to try something.”
“Todoroki, what is that--”
Suddenly, they’re both interrupted by the beeping, and Todoroki presses it open to silence it quickly. That smell takes over the kitchen, and Izuku finally recognizes it with his head whipping back around in disbelief.
And sure enough, he watches the liquid dripping from the open microwave and Todoroki’s stilled expression staring down at the slop.
“...Someone told me if you put soap in the microwave, it would turn into a cloud.”
Izuku coughs behind closed lips and bursts into laughter with a quick grip over his hand so his voice doesn’t reach past the first floor kitchen. Todoroki sighs, steps back from the mess, and retrieves a dish rag to start cleaning up his failed experiment while Izuku pulls himself together.
When he’s looked up again, he can see how Todoroki’s cheeks flush above his tightened lip, clearly embarrassed by the results and having a witness on top o fit, and Izuku settles down beside him with a smile.
“Sorry. You’re just... really adorable. Here, let me help.”
