my bugs might be getting a body plan change! I wanted make their stance closer to the ground (they do live in caves and tunnels, after all) and give them a bigger exoskeleton.
The small "arms" attached to the head evolved from mandibles that were used to hold prey in place while eating. Cavebugs' diet is mostly fish, so having this extra grip was a big advantage. Over time, these "arms" become more dexterous and are now used for things like writing and gesturing... not lifting, though, they are pretty weak.
Their digits are now a lot longer and better for grabbing onto tricky terrain. Their frontmost digits are also sharply hooked for snagging fish.
Cavebugs' eyes are very small and generally... not very good. They can't see color at all and are extremely short-sighted. Cavebugs mostly rely on their sense of touch to navigate, along with their antennae, which can sense motion and vibration.
Also, their "fur" is now underneath the exoskeleton instead of along the back! Not much of a reason for this one I just think it looks nicer
