Cavex and Tam Valentine’s Day Special
Cavex wasn’t sure about this.
The streets of Idoham were bustling with people, the golden-brown stone of the city reflecting the last setting rays of the sun. The entire place was washed with the warm glow of the sun. Full of life and warmth and a billion little vibrations echoing through her bare feet.
It was pleasant, but they had been sent here to patrol the city, not sightsee. But their supervisor ordered them to go enjoy the night, while others took the patrol. Idoham was a center of culture, art and music, they should enjoy the night.
Cavex sighed. Enjoy the night...sure. When a war was brewing on the horizon, when they were in the city in the first place looking for enemy spies!
At least Tam Ren was here. He seemed nice, even though they had met by her slamming him into the floor during training.
Tam’s brow furrowed, his hands almost moving in signs, but instead he shook his head and moved closer to her. “Do you want to dance?” he asked verbally, pointing towards the square. The fountain of the two city founders was shining with flowing water and magical golden orbs of light, couples dancing in the square as a band played.
Cavex’s bracelet picked up the words, printing them neatly in magical words at the bottom of her vision.
Cavex frowned, and stepped closer, so he could hear her. “I can’t.” she said, pronouncing her words carefully.
She then showed him the sign for “dancing”, so he could sign it next time. Tam nodded gratefully.
“Could you try? I’ll lead, and it won’t be hard for someone so quick on their feet.” he signed. “It’s just like fighting.”
Cavex paused for a moment, taking a few steps forward to better observe the square.
The people were fewer here, and she could feel the music softly shaking the stone under her feet, a nicely paced, fluid rhythm. It felt...beautiful, in a way.
Tam looked down at her, seeing her expression change. He smiled. “Just like fighting.” he repeated, holding out his hand.
Cavex sighed in resignation, but took his hand with a wary smile.
He grinned, pulling her into the square. His hands were cool as he gently grasped her shoulder, the other remaining in her hand.
She let him show her how to step; a long stride towards him, then a few smaller ones to the side, then--
He grinned as he let go of her shoulder, gently pushing her into a spin. Her spin brought her naturally back around, and she was back where she started, hand now on his shoulder.
Tam smiled encouragingly, dark eyes shining with excitement.
Cavex felt something flutter in her chest and she stumbled a step, breaking eye contact.
She took careful steps, gently moving him through the dance, then...
Whipping him around in a spin even more unexpected than hers.
He let out a shout of surprise, falling onto her and catching himself on her shoulders. Their faces were a breath apart
She held him up effortlessly, laughing softly “Just like fighting.” she grinned.
He huffed, pretending to be offended, but pulled away, smirking.
“That’s how you want to do this?” he signed, eyebrows quirked and a mischevious smile spreading on his face.
She tilted up her chin, meeting his gaze with her own. Making a single sign.
He grabbed her hand, leading her to the center of the square. The wriggle of nerves in her stomach was stomped out. Now it was a competition, now...there was no way she was letting Tam win.
They stepped, spun, fluidly fighting for control of the dance, taking the lead and letting it fall, all while maintaining some sort of rhythm.
Until Tam moved in a way she hadn’t seen before, sliding her around, slipping through his hands. She let the move happen, but then she was...falling?
No, she was being caught, being dipped towards the ground and held by Tam’s arms.
The music finished with a last burst of vibrations under her feet.
The two locked eyes, a bit out of breath.
She gave a playful scowl as he drew her back up into a standing position. “This round.” she signed, conceding.
