i just started reading some of the captain marvel solo books from after carol took the mantle and i'm really enjoying them so far! (the 2012 and 2014 volumes by kelly sue deconnick specifically are what i'm reading... but if any of your followers have some more recs for captain marvel stuff, let me know, too, because i totally need more)

if you're looking for mainstream comics, my rec is the hawkeye comics from 2012, by matt fraction and david aja!
but tbh i also avoided comics for a long time because i felt like there was so much prior knowledge needed, i am now literally a comics artist myself and i still haven't read almost any marvel/dc stuff, there are so many cool comics by so many cool artists that don't have decades' worth of backlog to go through (and i know that's the draw for a lot of people but it doesn't really appeal to me)
my recommendation for comics is honestly going to the library and grabbing whichever ones appeal to you, most libraries and bookstores have a dedicated comics/graphic novels section these days, and there's so much variety in genre/tone/etc that it's hard to give a recommendation without knowing what you like
sorry for long ask, i just love comics a lot and want everyone to enjoy them as much as i do :)
