Taking this opportunity to mention that Cloud Strife and Spike Spiegel are the same character.
It's been in my head for way too long and I feel like I should just say it before I forget:
- They're both Mercenaries.
- Their eyes are a point of interest for their character history.
- They both, on different occasions, have memory issues.
- Both of them used to work for a criminal syndicate that was secretly the shadow government.
- Both their first girlfriends were symbolized by flowers.
- Both flower girl girlfriends are under constant watch of, and escape, the shadow government.
- Both had huge confrontations during the mid point of their lives happen in a church.
- Both their nemeses are silver haired, black robed swordsmen with a thing for black feathers.
- Both the father's of said nemesis work for the shadow government. (At least if we also count Netflix Bebop, and regardless if we mean Hojo or Vincent, a theory whose hill I will die on)
- Both black coated swordsmen kills their flower girl girlfriend from behind right as the two get reunited.
- They both have a younger, female rogue party member that steals from the group on occasion.
- They both have a thing for vintage items (Cloud with bikes and Spike with nunchucks.)
- In both their parties, the dog is the wisest/most intelligent member.
- Both adopt a kid mostly by accident...
- They BOTH love a woman that can kick their ass.
- They're BOTH usually broke.
And UNDOUBTEDLY MY FAVORITE ONE:
- Both their best friends / seconds in command are 6-foot-something black guys with metal arms who were betrayed by the system they believed in, ended up killing a co-worker and now (if you count Netflix Bebop) fight to support their daughter, wear shades and went on to be voiced by Beau Bilingslea!

These have some similarities that make them so alike, but I can't put my finger on exactly what, other than being "cold."
