Chuck and Blair/Dan and Serena were the most popular couples on the show and Blair and Dan were the most hated couple. As the kids/teens that we were with no experience whatsoever on tv it's obvious that in our minds Chair and Derena were going to be endgame. Same goes for the writers giving what we wanted. As for the cliches... I agree but I can't help but love Chuck and Blair even tho they were overrated and toxic at some points.

Listen, if I ever make a show where the most popular couples are absolute inane and vapid and halfway through I discover that pairing two of them together is much more interesting for both the characters and the story, then catch me doing what’s best for the narrative instead of what the thirteen year old fans want. The whole point of being showrunner is that you’re supposed to have experience and know better than the kids who have no idea what they’re talking about. For the most part I guess. I was probably 17 when it came out and I even back then I knew it was bullshit. That’s just fanservice and I hate it. Why sacrifice the integrity of your story because 14 year old Sally from Montana wants toxic Chuck and Blair to rule the Upper East Side?

I dare anyone to watch this 3 minute video and tell me Dair didn’t have the best arc to be setup as endgame. Putting those two together was the best and most original narrative decision that writer’s room ever made...and then they decided to go for the cop out.
