Nina Golgowski at HuffPost:
A Massachusetts-born immigration attorney is questioning how many people are being wrongly instructed by the federal government to self-deport after she says she received an email from the Department of Homeland Security telling her to leave the U.S. “immediately” because her “parole” was terminated.
Nicole Micheroni shared the email to her Bluesky account Friday, stating that she knew it was sent to her in error and so wasn’t worried, “but what about the people the emails were actually aimed at?”
“It is time for you to leave the United States,” reads the email attributed to DHS, which has sent out similar versions to non-U.S. citizens who entered the U.S. using the CBP One mobile app. That app was set up during the Biden administration to facilitate border crossings before it was canceled by President Donald Trump.
Micheroni, who said she was born in Newton, works in Boston and has “no idea” how she ended up on the government’s list, was told she has seven days to leave the U.S., according to the email.
Add this to the reasons why the Trump Regime is a cesspit damaging America one hour at a time.

The group of immigrants, most of whom are Latino, would lose access to Medicaid and other benefits as soon as they're added to the list.
Lydia O'Connor at HuffPost:
President Donald Trump’s administration has reportedly taken a drastic new step to force out undocumented Latino immigrants: marking 6,000 of them as dead.
People familiar with the strategy shared details with The Washington Post and The New York Times on Thursday, saying Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has directed the Social Security Administration to add the names and Social Security numbers of more than 6,000 immigrants, most of whom are Latino, into a database used to track dead people, stripping them of their ability to access benefits or work in the U.S.
The move is part of a Trump administration scheme to target immigrants who are undocumented but have Social Security numbers, which allow them to access benefits like Medicaid, unemployment insurance and federal student loans.
“President Trump promised mass deportations, and by removing the monetary incentive for illegal aliens to come and stay, we will encourage them to self-deport,” White House spokesperson Elizabeth Huston wrote in a statement. “He is delivering on his promise he made to the American people.”
A White House official told the Post that of the 6,000 immigrants targeted, nearly 1,000 are collecting Medicaid, 41 are collecting unemployment insurance and 22 are receiving student loans.
The Trump White House wrongly marks 6,000 undocumented immigrants as “dead” in the hopes that they self-deport. Most of those 6,000 wrongly declared “dead” are Latino or Hispanic.

Chloe Simon at MMFA:
On President Donald Trump’s first day back in office, he announced an end to the CBP One app, which was expanded under former President Joe Biden’s administration and was the sole way for migrants to request an asylum-seeking appointment for legal entrance into the U.S. Right-wing media celebrated Trump for ending Biden’s policy, which they claimed let “illegal aliens schedule their illegal immigration,” and praised the incoming president for launching “a crackdown on illegal immigration.”
Trump shut down the CBP One app, which was the sole way for people to legally request asylum in the U.S. under the Biden administration
During his first day back in office on January 20, Trump signed a series of executive orders targeting immigration. He declared a national emergency at the southern border, authorizing military personnel to go there, ordered the reinstatement of his previous “Remain in Mexico” policy, and terminated the CBP One app. [CBS News, 1/21/25]
Since its launch in 2020, the CBP One app had been a tool for the Department of Homeland Security to identify and track asylum-seekers while allowing some to enter the U.S. at legal ports of entry. According to NBC News, the Biden administration implemented the CBP One app “as a way to curb people crossing the southwest border illegally to request asylum.” The American Immigration Council explained: “The app has become the only way that migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border seeking asylum at a port of entry can preschedule appointments for processing and maintain guaranteed asylum eligibility. CBP One also became the only way that Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans seeking to secure travel authorization to obtain parole through special programs for those nationalities can submit their biometric information to CBP.” [NBC News, 1/20/25; American Immigration Council, 6/2/23]
Out of tens of millions of applications submitted through the app from January 2023 to December 2024, just 936,500 applicants were granted an appointment to request asylum. If asylum was granted, the approved person received a two-year permit that gave “eligibility to work.” [CBS News, 2/12/24; CBP, 1/14/25; NBC News, 1/20/25; PBS NewsHour, 1/20/25]
The CBP One app had been notably credited for decreasing illegal entry into the U.S. An August 2024 NBC News piece quoted Texas pastor Abraham Barberi that the app has “contributed to the decline” in illegal entries, suggesting that “now people think, ‘Well, I don’t have to go all the way to the border, I don’t have to cross the river illegally.’” Forbes also noted that immigration analysts have credited “the ability to use the CBP One app” in part with helping “reduce unlawful migration from Haiti,” adding, “If there is no way to enter legally and apply for asylum or obtain work, many people may choose to take their chances by crossing illegally.” According to PBS NewsHour, “Illegal border crossings by Cubans plunged under CBP One from a peak of nearly 35,000 in April 2022 to just 97 in September.” Additionally, PBS reported, “Migrant shelters along Mexico’s border with the U.S. are now occupied primarily by people seeking the online appointments.” [NBC News, 8/9/24; Forbes, 10/25/24; PBS NewsHour, 1/20/25]
The CBP One app served a purpose: a tool for asylum seekers to legally request asylum.
Donald Trump terminated it, and right-wing media celebrate it.
President’s move comes amid voter dissatisfaction over immigration as leftwing and Latino lawmakers express alarm
Lauren Gambino, Joan E Greve, and Amanda Ulrich at The Guardian:
Joe Biden on Tuesday signed an executive order that will temporarily shut down the US-Mexico border to asylum seekers attempting to cross between lawful ports of entry, when a daily threshold of crossings has been exceeded.
The order will take effect immediately, senior administration officials said on a press call. Those seeking asylum will be held to a much more rigorous standard for establishing credible fear of returning to their home country, although certain groups – including human trafficking victims and unaccompanied children – would be excluded from the ban.
Delivering remarks at the White House alongside mayors of border towns, Biden said congressional Republicans had left him with “no choice” but to take unilateral action after they blocked a bipartisan border security bill earlier this year.
“So today, I’m moving past Republican obstruction and using the executive authority that’s available to me as president to do what I can on my own to address the border,” Biden said. “Doing nothing is not an option. We have to act.”
The move comes amid rising public concern over the number of people crossing into the US, with polls showing a majority of Americans dissatisfied with the president’s handling of the border. The White House has been under immense pressure from Republicans and some Democrats to reduce the number of people arriving at the southern border.
Under the executive order, the administration would shut down asylum requests to the US-Mexico border once the number of daily encounters has reached 2,500 between legal ports of entry, which regularly occurs now. The border would re-open two weeks after that figure falls below a daily average of 1,500 for seven consecutive days.
People who make appointments with border officials using the Customs and Border Protection app would also be exempt, though advocates emphasize that scheduling one can take months.
The directive is not expected to hinder other border activity, such as trade or traffic.
The measure relies on the same legal framework adopted by Donald Trump to restrict unlawful crossings in 2018, but was blocked by a federal court. At the time, Democrats assailed Trump’s border policies as draconian and rooted in xenophobia. The announcement triggered immediate threats of legal challenges, as the American Civil Liberties Union said it would sue the administration over the new policy.

Immigration and border policy are at the heart of Republicans’ 2024 campaign message, with Trump bashing Biden as “weak” and vowing to unleash the biggest mass deportation of undocumented immigrants in US history should he win re-election in November.
Trump’s campaign quickly weighed in on news of the order, dismissing the policy as insufficient. Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign press secretary, said in a statement: “If Joe Biden truly wanted to shut down the border, he could do so with a swipe of the same pen, but he never will because he is controlled by radical left Democrats who seek to destroy America.”
The action comes months after Senate Republicans, at Trump’s behest, voted down a bipartisan border security deal. Trump, wary of handing Biden a political victory on his signature issue, had announced his opposition to the bill and encouraged Republicans to block its advancement.
The Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, last month held another vote on the border package, which included measures Republicans have been clamoring for, including a far-reaching clampdown on the number of people allowed to claim asylum, while providing billions to the Department of Homeland Security to hire more border officers and immigration judges. The measure failed, as expected, but Democrats hoped the vote would underscore Republican resistance to a border deal they helped negotiate.
Biden made clear on Tuesday that he does not view the new order as a replacement for congressional action, and he again called on Republicans to work with Democrats to improve the US immigration system.

On Tuesday, Iranian asylum-seekers were detained in Los Angeles, adding to the count of church members taken despite lawful status.
Andy Olsen at Christianity Today:
On June 19, as Iran and Israel exchanged volleys of missiles and officials secretly finalized plans to dispatch American bombers to strike Iranian nuclear sites, pastor Ara Torosian published a letter to his church.
Torosian, an Iranian pastor at Cornerstone West Los Angeles, leads the church’s Farsi-speaking congregation. He came to the United States as a refugee 15 years ago after being imprisoned for his faith. He has always carried in his heart a prayer, Torosian wrote: “that Iran would be free.”
Now, explosions were rocking Tehran and other Iranian cities, wounding and killing children and grandparents, and Torosian was shouldering new burdens from halfway across the globe.
“There are people currently in Iran who were baptized in this very church and still listen to our sermons regularly. We are far from them,” Torosian wrote, urging Cornerstone’s English- and Spanish-speaking congregations to stand with and pray for the Persian worshipers. “We Farsi-speaking believers are living minute by minute with heavy hearts. We’re asking: Are our loved ones safe? Are they alive? What is happening to them?”
But five days later, the suffering of his loved ones came suddenly very close.
On Tuesday, the pastor recorded on his phone as masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested two of his church members on a Los Angeles sidewalk. The Iranian husband and wife had pending asylum cases, according to Torosian. They fled Iran for fear of persecution for being Christians and had been part of his congregation for about a year.
The detentions add to a growing number of church members and Christians seeking religious protection who get picked up by ICE. Often they have no apparent criminal history. In many instances, they were in the United States lawfully, complying with orders from immigration courts. ICE has traditionally not deported individuals with pending asylum petitions, who are allowed to work while their cases proceed.
Earlier this week, according to Torosian, ICE arrested a separate Iranian Christian family who worshiped at Cornerstone. Ministry leaders told CT they have heard reports of other Iranians being detained in recent days. They echo stories of Iranian Christians the administration has already deported to countries such as Panama, where some remain.
[...]
In May and June, as the administration pushed to meet higher deportation goals, it began to detain more immigrants without criminal histories. According to government data, 65 percent of ICE “book-ins” at detention centers are not criminals. Only 7 percent are convicted of violent offenses.
The Department of Homeland security has said in court filings that it will prioritize deporting even immigrants who have had charges dismissed, and it has ended protections for some Christians facing persecution in their homelands, such as Afghans.
In Los Angeles, Torosian said the Iranian couple from his church called him for help when ICE agents approached them near their home. As he filmed agents binding the hands of the husband, whose name CT is not publishing, the pastor told the agents, “He’s an asylum-seeker.”
“It doesn’t matter,” one agent says in the video.
“He came with CBP One,” Torosian replies, referring to the now-discontinued app that migrants used during the Biden administration to apply to lawfully enter the country.
This is un-Christ-like by the American Gestapo (aka ICE). ICE are going after Christians fleeing persecution.
