De Fruittella-rol by Marcel Verhaaf
One volume in what I’m assuming is a series on iconic packaging (although this shelf just housed the one). This particular book is all about the European candy Fruittella, which I believe are fruity squares, similar to Starburst. I might like Starburst more if it was as adorably packaged as Fruitella! A sweet (hahaaaa), slim book, full of colorful ads ordered chronologically and what is probably a comprehensive history of the product and the company/ packaging / advertising. I can’t say for sure though - did I mention it’s all in Dutch?

Plastic Culture: How Japanese Toys Conquered The World
A brief history of Japan’s relationship with the global toy industry and a closer look at a variety of artists working within the form of toys, including sections on Takeshi Murikami, Yoshitomo Nara and Junko Mizuno . While I’m not as obsessed with art toys - or “urban vinyl” as they’re apparently referred to - as I once was, I still love the medium and many of the artists featured in this book. There was even a section on PressPop gallery, a group of art toy manufacturers I’ve been lucky enough to meet and are some of the nicest people on the planet. This book was a fun mix of familiar artists as well as a few new (to me) ones. Now I might have to stop by Rotofugi and pick up some new vinyl buddies.. http://www.rotofugi.com/home/

A concise collection of toy ray guns, from the 1930s through the 80s. Interesting to see the shapes and materials change over the years and I got pretty excited in the 70s and 80s once Star Wars and Batman models started showing up. Sure, the cover on this one is pretty dated, but, the pictures are of good quality and so much fun to see! I mean, what's cooler than ray guns??
