244 P2: analogue - proposal
this remediation project will be an experiment of projections to distort images. jaded eyes fail to appreciate the magic of digital photography vs that of analogue photography (hello darkroom science), so this is an attempt to capture how light and colour is dispersed through image projection.
i initially chose to present this as a trademe ad but they seemed to want $99 from me to be able to list it, so i opted to put it on gumtree for free instead.
analysis
this is a concept i obviously would have liked to have developed a lot further, from staging living spaces that i could photograph to letting the ad run earlier to see what responses would come of it. given enough time and proper execution i might have gone so far as to have viewings..
244 P3: Datagraphy - Final Proposal
from a sociological view, this project looks at how ideas are sold, or loaned, to people. in the context of properties for rent, these images are a play on the use of trademe to communicate the potential of a house, and how images act as manipulated or composed data to present conditions that add to, or detract from, its’ value.
244 P3: Datagraphy - initial proposal
for this project i will capture the chaos as it lies on the tables in my current abode. as an insight to the concept of workspace clutter and how it is conducive to, or hinders, productivity, this work will be a psychological observation - i will shoot objects on the table as they have been naturally placed in the rush of the day, and rather than clear them away, position each object in a neat and orderly fashion. so as a before / after experiment, i will investigate whether it is merely the placement of objects, or the presence of objects that affects my flatmates' productivity.

For this last project, I want to explore a place in more than one moment in time. Using timelapse techniques, I would approach my result with digital merging. In this process, I want to find patterns in the objects moving in these spaces.
The overall idea is that I will create an image out of what has been but never truly was.
//Conclusion
This was an interesting project, which gave me a different perspective on looking at the way people interact with spaces, and finding types of similarities and patterns in the images was a fun way to approach this. It also got me thinking about the fact that we see people everyday that we will never see again in our lifetime.

If I were to do it again I would play around with the image editing a lot more now that I have had practice with the technique.
This was my plan B project where I asked my flatmate Rachel to set an alarm and take a photo at 3:33 every day for a week and I would do the same. The differences are quite interesting seeing what she chose to take photos of and how it was mostly objects where as I chose to take photos of the people I was with.
Final images for project three
For this project I have decided to document the doorways of places I feel connected to growing up. These are the doorways of places I know no matter what is going on in the world I will be welcome and safe in these spaces. They are sanctuaries and represent belonging. I chose to take these photos at night to invite the viewer into the doorway and pull them into the warmth. To me, these photos are comforting and familiar as I know what is inside but I know for those who haven’t visited these places before, other emotions might be experienced.
I really struggled with datagraphy because I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that its about collecting data and not creating it like we might normally with photography and design.
In saying this I am happy with the skills I have learnt and defiantly know where I need to improve and what areas of this I would like to continue to explore. From this project I will invest in a shutter release cable and continue to learn how to use my camera more effectively. I struggled with my night time photos as I could never get the balance between light and the sharpness of the photo. If I had more time I would have liked to present these images in a fold out photo holder, something small that I could carry around when I need comfort if I’m away from home.
