331 Live Theory, Project 4: Design Manifesto - final written output
design output - iterations
my creative output is inspired by business cards + cards against humanity.
i am designing a deck of cards that serve as both the creative output and promotional material. it will take form as wooden business cards, laser cut with the project title (and maybe website) on one side and a mixture of short messages/quotes/phrases derived from my design manifesto and from like-minded creatives who inspire me.
these are intended as a takeaway memento, for creative young pacific island/maori in particular, but also for anyone who resonates with the messages. these messages will be a variety of calls to action, to think, to inspire, and include use of languages and/or slang from pacific cultures.
to refine/do:
project title - zebras who climb trees / brown card
type - decide typefont weight w/ laser cutting in mind
graphic logo - simplify to make it more bold
number of cards to produce
wood thickness/type - 3 1/2″+, thick enough to reasonably laser cut both sides
packaging and design
design manifesto - a draft
navigating: information permission opportunity
to: instigate aggravate initiate
this will be fleshed out and refined but this will be the bones of my design manifesto, which comes from a remix of Coco Solids’ kaupapa and verbs summing up what i aim to achieve with design outputs.

potential audio track to accompany video
relaxx and lolina are two other options by the same artist that i’m leaning towards
each almost directly reference the theme and direction of my critical selfie, speaking of the construction of, and relation to, the city, of the lenses we look through, and of indifferenceb.m.w is more melodic and dark while relaxx and lolina are more playful, experimental and lyrically minimal but still provocative

who is texting me and why - analogue visualisation
this is my first attempt to manually extract and plot data from my phone, but more appropriately, it’s an insight into the illogical workings of my brain.
i want to visualise who is texting me and why. i go through periodic waves of having my phone on silent and clearing phone notifications without checking the text, email, calendar reminder update i’m being notified about as a response to feeling overwhelmed by de/commands of others. i want to look at the 122 individual text conversations that currently exist on my phone, who i am interacting with and what the conversations are about. to make it easier to categorise, i am looking at the most recent thread in a text conversation. another aspect i want to incorporate is what days i am receiving texts.
