“And this, boys? One of most incredible natural occurrences Earth’s yellow sun has to offer after a rain shower.” Clark cradled the twins close to his chest as he flew high above the city, the two boys just barely waking up from their mid-day nap. The Man of Steel beamed as he watched them become more alert, wide eyes blinking up at him. He easily turned them in his arms, giving them ample view of the array of colors. Holding firmly to their squirming figures, his heart soared as Jon and Jordan gurgled and cooed, as if having a conversation with one another. “Let’s not tell Mommy about this little adventure of ours though, hmm? It’ll be our little secret.”
Camille’s little apartment was empty, an odd sight for this time of the night. He’d locked the bar up for the night and headed straight home, wanting nothing more than to be near the person who was home to the Daxamite without a physical place to call home. Though, upon arrival he was sorely disappointed to find himself alone the the apartment, the chaos of the surrounding units like radio static in his ears.
Shit, now what am I supposed to do? Sit with my own thoughts? Rok signed silently to himself, hands moving seamlessly in front of him as he walked deeper into the apartment. If he didn’t have to use English, he wasn’t going to. Flipping on the overhead light, his eye caught sight of the workstation that Camille was so often found at. Near it, sat her well-loved copy of “The Great Gatsby”, bringing a rare smile to Rok’s features.
“No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart.” The words rolled easily off her tongue as Rok listened silently. The words struck him, and his hand covered hers, taking the book into his own hands. “It’s my favorite book. I could read it over and over,” Camille smiled at the mute Daxamite as he thumbed through the pages. He could feel her eyes, watching his face as he soaked it in, until his own eyes met hers. There they sat, side-by-side, locked in a gaze that went soul-deep. Safe. Camille signed across her chest, and for the first time, he truly felt it. “Safe,” his hoarse voice cracked, and his hand mirrored the sign as he spoke for the first time in years.
He reached for the book, his fingers running across the binding before catching on a photo that was being used as a bookmark.
A rare photo he’d never seen, taken in secret on one of their many nights spent stargazing. She must have worked hard to get the exposure just right, the city lights behind the pair paving way for a clear silhouette. Lips locked in a sweet kiss, Rok was wholly unsure how the moment was captured as they were enraptured with one another.
Of all the individuals, Camille was the one to find him, to save him. Save him from his tortured past, his wounded heart, the unquenchable inferno that was his anger, and most importantly, saving him from himself.

Mick turned to glance back at Amaya, not expecting to hear those words from her. “Take a break? Why would I want to take a break?” His stomach clenched a bit at the very thought of taking a step back from their relationship and how far they’d come in such a short time.
“That’s the last thing I want. Is it... what you want?”
