Cisco swiftly walked into STAR Labs after being on a trip to see his family. It was nice that even with Dante gone he was somewhat important enough that they wanted to see him. Dropping his backpack down, he noticed it didn’t have the same sound at it usually did hitting the chair...the chair that was no longer there. “I”m gone for a week and you all decided to get rid of my chair! This better be a prank. Hello! Is anyone here? I’m pretty sure Meta’s are still a thing and this city needs saving!” Cisco called out looking around the very empty lab.

“Wait, really?” Barry glanced upwards, where what he thought was holly hung above their heads in the cortex. “That makes a lot more sense now. I was wondering why there was only one, rather than a long string of ‘em.”

Looking up at the plant, Cisco made a face and squinted his eyes. “Yup...I mean that’s good for you and Iris, but not for me. As handsome as you are...you are not really my type, buddy,” he said patting his back. “We might want to change that before something awkward happens. I don’t even think we have holly anywhere.”

“Ramoooooooon,” Mark sang out into the darkness, taunting the meta he considered his nemesis for so long. With the flick of his wrist, fog rolled in, concealing his location from Cisco. “Your good ol’ friend is back in action, just in time for the holidays. You wanna know the best part? You can’t do anything about it.”

Cisco breathed heavily as he ran through the darkness. “MARK!” he groaned as he shielded himself from the fog that had started to form. “Wanna bet?!” Cisco yelled as he vibed up to the highest point. Spotting a figure in the distance, he fired a vibe blast.

Standing atop the mayoral float, The Flash smiled and waved at the crowd, grateful to see faces smiling back, amidst the hardships the city had faced in the last several months. “You think the town is safe for trick-or-treating this year, given all that’s happened?”

Cisco was eating his stash of candy he had set out for any kids that came snooping by STAR Labs. Had to make sure people didn’t think the place was haunted or something. Spinning in his chair, he sighed chowing down on his gummy worm. “It’s Halloween. Unless a virgin summoned the Sanderson Sisters I think we’re okay. Radar isn’t picking anything up so right now we’re good.”

“What you consider fun I consider reckless endangerment of the greater public.” Oliver held for a beat. “But if you’d like to play with one I’d be happy to show punctuate your curiosity like I did to Barry. It’ll be target practice for me and a lesson for you.” Turning on his heels to face Cisco with a feigned look of disgust. “Have you ever heard of the expression ‘if it’s not broken, don’t fix it?’ Those are tried and true and better than most of my fancy ones. If we rely on tech for everything, we lose touch with our skills.”

“That’s why I won’t let you upgrade them.” 

Cisco made a face and shook his head a little. “You know you would kill me if you did that right? I might be a meta, but I don’t heal like Barry,” he nervously laughed before glancing around at all the stuff in the cave. “I’ve heard of the expression, but I also know that these villains are getting stronger. How long are these arrows gonna last.”

“Self defense doesn’t usually involve slashing or plunging…” Oliver hummed with a stern gaze. “..so no you can’t use that. Put it down.”

“You’re no fun, you know that?” Cisco sighed making a face as he put down the arrow. “Come on, I can upgrade these things to do so much more than what you’re using them for. And I already know you have fancy ones.”

A look of hurt and confusion flashed across Barry’s face, despite knowing that his dear friend was right. He needed to sit out for a bit and regain composure after his not-so-great decision to use artificial speed a little bit longer than necessary. “Okay. Treadmill, lightning bolt, powers. Check.” He nodded, eyes glancing over the plans Cisco had pulled out. “I’m grateful for your confidence, and I trust you… but what if it doesn’t work? Then what?” 

Cisco looked at the plans then back at Barry wondering what was going on in his head. In his mind he hoped it would work because this city couldn’t go without The Flash. “I’m confident it’ll work. And if it doesn’t then we rework the plan and try again. Get Caitlin to help out and Iris, isn’t she your lightning rod or whatever?” He walked over to his best friend and put a hand on his shoulder. “The headline in the time vault newspaper hasn’t changed so I’m assuming something works to get your speed back.”

“I’ve been ready, my dude. I feel like I’ve been on a time out and I’m down for anything,” he replied, standing from where he sat in the lab before moving closer to the board to get a better look. “Wait, explain jump starting me like a car.”

“I know, but getting whammied every week isn’t gonna help,” he joked as he walked over to the computer and got out the plans he had been working on.  “A time out was needed, dude.” Turning around the monitor, he smiled at his best friend. “So basically it would have the same effect like what we did when Blackout took your powers. We get you running on the treadmill and hit the treadmill with a lightning bolt. The kinetic energy you build up from the power you have left should jumpstart your original powers. I’m confident it won’t end up like that time with Zoom.”

“Thank you, Cisco.” Following Cisco into the building, he glanced at the woman in his arms who was starting to stir a little after her temporary daze. “I’m afraid this young lady has been using her meta abilities to cause harm. Though I don’t think she was acting on her own behalf.” He didn’t want to mention the pipeline outright, not where everyone could hear, but having a meta proof place to keep her safe was preferable to prison.

Cisco looked at the woman in his arms and tilted his head. Medical stuff wasn’t exactly his forte, but he could get by if needed. His mind stopped when Kal said the woman was a meta and not a nice one. “What do you mean? Like she’s being manipulated into using her powers for evil?” He asked as he glanced from Kal to the girl. “I mean I can do some tests on her and we can put her in the pipeline until we figure out what’s wrong with her.”

I trust you Ada. 

Warmth spread through her chest in gratitude at the kind affirmation. She made every effort to hide the surge of pride. Perhaps he did not intend to implant such emphasis, but surely Cisco didn’t speak it with flagrancy. He must have trusted her because he really did consider her a friend. Apart from her outward psychological neutrality, she was a warm-hearted creature on the inside who valued the acceptance of her peers. Ada would never hesitate to siphon any ounce of their suffering in order to aid in the repair of what was damaged, not from these valiant friends. But she didn’t vocalize this, instead she gave a short nod and yanked at her right glove, flexing her bare fingers in relief. They’d been practically withering away in fabric all day.

“I haven’t completely explored this aspect of my ability,” she admitted truthfully – mostly because she spent more time submerging her affinity than making use of it. “However, I believe that if I concentrate, I should be able to…” brows furrowed, Ada pressed just the tips of her fingers into Cisco’s palm, channeling a wave of relief from herself towards his psyche. Altering the emotions of others would never feel entirely moral, which was why she rarely tapped into that particular source, but this was an exception. Slowly retracting her fingers, she concentrated on preserving the soothing contact. 

“How does that feel?”

Cisco was still trying to figure out what Ada’s powers actually were, but she had a point in them possibly helping with his situation. “Well trying now will only help you in the end. Maybe I can help you hone in on your powers,” she smiled as he held his hand out to her. Watching carefully he winced, but there wasn’t really any pain. There was almost this relief in his palm. Something he hadn’t felt in a while. Glancing up at her face, he smiled before laughing. “You’re just making me want to give you a cool hero name now.”

“It feels great..better than great. How did you do that?”

Ada’s head dipped to the side without averting her focus from the sequence on her monitor. “You do know I can tell when you’re trivializing your discomfort,” her drawl was almost monotone, with no judgment or disapproval. She could feel his unease with every word he uttered which was beginning to make her own palms prick with inflammation. Dragging her attention from the screen, she scanned his features briefly before offering a gloved hand forward. For as long as she’d been employed by S.T.A.R labs and made genuine connections despite her social awkwardness, she still struggled with instinctively recognizing the proper reaction in certain situations. Ada could answer a mathematical equation instantly, which the formula for said problem had more than a 98% probability of being in her brain. But there was no formula for people. Every tone, every situation called for something different. Was being comforting the appropriate action in this instance? Was that what a good friend did? 

She wanted so desperately to be a true friend.

“I can relieve the pain if you’d like, temporarily at least” it was the closest thing she could offer by way of a remedy. “Or should I call for Doctor Snow?”

As he sat there, he glanced at his hands and sighed. The pain still stinging, but better than it was earlier. He couldn’t understand why it happened or even how. It was like his body deactivated. Looking up at the screen that Ada was looking at, he sighed knowing it was a long shot to know why this was happening. 

“Yeah I’m...in pain, but it’s not as bad as it was,” he flexed his hands and pursed his lips before looking back up at her. “You don’t have to call Caitlin, she’ll just worry more. I’ll take some pain reliever. I trust you, Ada.”

“Alright, you ready to figure out this speed thing. I’ve got my theories, but I’m not sure they will really work. But I figured we can jump start you like a car,” he said stepping back from the board and turning towards Barry.

Drifting down from the heavens with an incapacitated adversary was part of a day’s work for Kal, but he understood why a crowd of people had gathered outside the S.T.A.R labs facility to watch his entrance. Even in Central, where The Flash was a regular sight, seeing a Superperson was a novelty. Scanning the faces as he hovered closer, he picked out the man he was looking for and addressed him directly. “Mr Ramon, I need your assistance, if you wouldn’t mind?”

Cisco made a face when he noticed the man soaring around STAR Labs. He thought it was Clark stopping by, but then he noticed who it really was. “Kal...you can call me Cisco...” he said rather nervously because it was still weird seeing Ray’s face in a Superman suit. “What’s going on, Supes?”
