Confession.

I hate looking at maps. I may have 5,000+ miles under my belt, 18+ months of outdoor living experience, and I may be a trail crew leader / environmental educator, but I still prefer to ignore maps whenever possible. The damn water situation in New Mexico, plus the fact that there are essentially three different Continental Divide Trails and a myriad of other roads, paths, and tracks at the start of this trail has forced it upon me.

Map Sizes

I'm actually debating the pros and cons of 8.5x11 vs. 11x17 inch maps right now.

Gear

Somehow, at thru-hike number three, I am still tweaking gear and finding ways to spend money even though my previous pack weight was only 8 lbs. This is ridiculous.

But, wouldn't 7 lbs be sick?
